James Brown did not start hip hop. You can draw parallels between several black artists pre 1970's. That's because hip hop is a sub culture that extends from greater black culture so things like dances or call and response will naturally exist.

Jams in the park
DJ's spinning the break
Sampling
Battling
B Boying
Scratching

These are things that seperate hip hop into it's own category. Yes James was influential in the sound of hip hop given how much he was sampled but don't credit him with starting it.

And Ricans ain't start a damn thing. They b boyed and were known for graf but they leeched onto us for that.

You should do more research on James Brown. I can tell by your comments that you don't know much about him. If you grew up listening to James Brown and then heard later Hip Hop then you know who created that shyt.

James Brown….Father of Hip Hop/Rap | MUSC 204: Popular Music in Black America
Remembering James Brown And His Influence On Hip Hop Culture | The Source
James Brown | Soul Survivor | American Masters | PBS

That ain't no low key way of shytting on NYC. That is just telling you the origins of a music.

It would be just like me telling you that Country music actually started with the slaves on plantations; which would be a true statement. That doesn't mean that I am shytting on Nashville it is just a fact of where the music actually came from.

First off you’re only talking about the music
for your information hip-hop is not only about the music
hip-hop is about its entire culture

the culture a.k.a. the way of living came before any of the element in hip-hop and yes the DJ which is related to the music used James Brown’s break beats more than any other in its history
nobody is denying the influence of Mr. Brown’s music into hip-hop music but it’s fukking ridiculous to say he started or created a culture which he knew nothing about

so please stop this nonsense

latinos learned and appropriated afram stepping....these are facts!

Would it be fair and balanced to say Aframs appropriated stepping from South African miners? :lupe:

Especially since we are West African descendants and have no cultural ties to South Africa.

Or because they are fellow black people it doesn’t count?

We can differ on James Brown's basic influence on the music. IMO he created it. In your opinion he was influential because he has been sampled so much. Those are two primary positions that people can at least see eye to eye on and have a general disagreement. Those are two completely different positions than saying it was created in NYC and he had nothing to do with it. The End.

Even Kool Moe Dee acknowledged people stealing James Brown's shyt, but let me stop shytting on NYC.

He didn't invent hip hop. That's like saying The Lat Poets invented rapping. If you aren't able to comprehend nuance you might leap to those conclusions.

DJ's were spinning breaks from many artists not just James.

Where was the James influence on Rappers Delight or The Message? I can post plenty of old school rap that didn't have James' sound. Kids rapping at the lunch room table had nothing to do with James. James wasn't doing windmills and head spins. He wasn't using turntables.

If you want to keep it real then rapping was created by the Griots or Jelis on the Empire of Mali. Just like Blues came from that Kingdom Mali so did rapping, which is how Jelis remembered family lines.

It is as clear day that James Brown is rapping in his music way back in the 1960's. I am not going to move you off of your point. You are not going to move me off of my point, because I grew up listening to him and early Hip Hop. In my mind he created that shyt. If you all say that it attributable to other sources as well then that is fine.

you completely ignore the main point - but i see that’s what people do when they are proven wrong

There is no point there. No matter what anyone points out to you then you will claim that they are shytting on NYC; and like I wrote before that is like a Country music fan claiming that somebody is shytting on Nashville for pointing out that Country music was created in the South on plantations by slaves who were originally from around the Kingdom of Mali; which is where the banjo is from.

You are entitled to your opinion. I am entitled to mine.

How many kids in the South Bronx during the 70's heard of Griots from Mali?:jbhmm:

You’re both incorrect.

It’s hit or miss.. they not as bad as Dominicans but some of them, especially when they move to the suburbs, be taking on a whole racist Italian persona, shyt is scary.

The ricans in Vineland NJ and Florida are the most racist c00ns I've ever met. I'm talking right wing zealot type people.
