While American students struggle say “buenos días”, Chinese middle students speaking fluent English

Seeing as English is the closest thing that we have to a worldwide language ( lingua franca, ) and American media itself is prevalent worldwide, this really isn't that much of a surprise.

I mean, what Language would we really need to learn in school? Spanish, since it's our unofficial secondary language? That's about it.

Don't even need to learn Spanish. While the United States doesn't have an official spoken language, the official written language of this country is English.

Nothing against people who are bilingual or even trilingual. But if you grow up around multiple languages it's easier to speak them.

I used to speak fluent German. But when we moved from Germany I lost the ability to speak it since I wasn't around German speakers anymore.

You will see that those "at the top" do not learn the languages of the others. Ironically over time it ends up giving somewhat of an advantage to the latter, since they speak their own language AND the language of those who are at the top. Same thing with code-switching.

Unless you're in school it's not easy to find a place to learn a new language. I know there's apps that teach you but I want to learn from a person bc of the different inflections and tone.

I wanted to learn Japanese bc before covid I was saving up to go and it's hard learning online. The questions I had I couldn't ask anyone. There aren't any classes I could take here either unless it's a Spanish course.
