I hear you all but I just don't see this Episode 3 is the best in the series or 3rd best or 2nd best, etc. Just don't see it. And that's got nothing to do with nostalgia or anything else. Like I said, it has a lot of good going for it but it feels too artificial at moments for me to even put it above 4-6.

For me, it's because Jedi hella drags. The stuff at Jabba's place, a lot of the Endor stuff, it just seems like filler. It was like they had nothing else, so let's drag out saving Han; let's drag out the base on Endor, play around with the Ewoks (even though I like the Ewoks). Sith had very little filler, and everything just came together...some too quick, but still together. There was so much advancement of the story. The only flaw was the Padme/Anakin scenes, but there was so little of it. Palpatine mapping out everything

That I can get with and understand but again for me, it comes down to "do I give a shyt?" and if the answer is no, then the answer is no. that's not to say 3 is a bad flick because it's not. I think it's good, not great, and not a classic. But I can't put it heads and tails above any of the original 3 nor do i see it as the quintessential star wars flick as @satam55 says it is

I'm saying it's arguably the best out of the first 6 movies.

I'm flabbergasted by this. I've only read that bullshyt on this board. But this place has a lot of Encino men so I take their opinion with a grain of salt

Or a grain of sand in their case

I still don't get that Enchino Man reference, so I can only go off based on the context y'all have used it. The good thing about Enchino Men is they give a fresh non-nostalgia biased perspective on things.

Anyways, it's one thing to make an argument that Epsiode 5 or 6 is better than Episode 3. But you cannot tell me Episode 4 is better than Epsiode 3. In retrospect, Episode 4 just seems like a movie setting up sequels especially having watched the Prequels before hand. That's a criticism I've noticed Episode 7 frequently got this past week.

People acting like the old Star Wars movies were on some Godfather 1 & 2 shyt - if you ask a lot of directors they'll tell you Star Wars destroyed 'filmmaking' because of the 'faster, more intense' approach.

Anakin's 'sand'-line is no worse then Luke's Tosche station whine, and Anakin/Padme is about as akward as Luke/Leia was even before we find out they're brother and sister - there is not a single scene that suggests Leia actually likes Luke, yet he's on some :takedat:shyt and we're supposed to believe, like Han does, that she might be into him.

Episode I is IMO the only bad movie of the bunch.

Star Wars, Empire and Sith are the only movies that I would say are next level (even with their flaws).

Clones, Jedi and TFA are fun as hell but very flawed.

4 doesn't set anything up breh in the way movies do now. 4 is self contained. Because in his mind he didn't know he was getting a sequel. There are storylines that could be paid off, yeah, but you could watch that movie on its own in 77 and be content if you never got another one. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger. And you keep saying its nostalgia when I clearly said it wasn't but you never respond to that homie. You tried to hit me with some source awards suge knight shyt and when I responded to you, you were quiet as a church mouse.

Well again like you said it comes down to preference but like @Won Won said and like @Kill Dat Noize said, it's execution. The execution in it is what makes it okay or good to me but in the eyes of others, bad. And for me, it boils down to character stuff in that I only care because I know I'm supposed to. It's easily the best of 1-3 and to me it's still fourth best in the series which isn't a bad thing. The only reason we got here is because I disagreed with homie saying it's the quintessential Star Wars movie. It's not. Empire is the quintessential Star Wars movie.

I would say Star Wars is the quintessential Star Wars movie ;) , as it's the only one that stands on it's own.

But ok Empire is my favorite of the bunch, so I would never go against giving props to Empire.

That movie is virtually flawless except for the asteroid worm. Hoth is brilliant, Yoda is brilliant, everything from the moment the Falcon gets to Bespin is 10/10.

And watching it again last week I realized just how good it really is. Like I always knew but I guess the more you learn about film and the history of film and refine your palate, etc, you tend to look at things differently and Empire is such a dope film, star wars or no star wars.

I did the same, after I did the marathon I Checked out that Empire documentary on the Blu Ray set - learning that John Williams designed that Bespin theme, when the Falcon first arrives, to mimick eery mermaid songs that would lure pirates into traps :wow:

It's also the only new movie that only has improvements. It's good that they replaced the Emperor for continuity sake (and edited the dialogue), dope that they gave Boba Jango's voice and dope how they expanded Bespin to look more like a metropolis.

No weird Jabba scene (ANH), edits that change a character's entire arc (Han shoots first) or weird ass musical intros (Jedi).

George being at a :demonic:stage in his life worked perfectly. He gave them a dark ass story and focused on building his own empire so nobody could ever say no to him again.

Once he had that Empire and got comfortable we got Ewoks and Jar Jar.

You said you don't get the reference and then clearly get the reference :heh:

Episode 4 works as a stand-alone film there's no cliffhanger ending. Like with empire or even this newest one
