Rurouni Kenshin had a pretty dope 1st episode.

That moment where Kenshin reveals who he really is... :wow:

Wow good question. My first thought was Death Note, but then I remembered L showed up at the end of the second episode which set the tone of the series like crazy and had me :krs: when he narrowed down the possibilities of who the killer could be.

I see Champloo and Bebop have already been mentioned. I'll toss in Gundam 00. Their team tactics were :ohlawd: throughout the series and that first ep really introduced the entire squad (including the non-pilots) well.

The first episode of Baccano is pretty cool, too.

Death Note's first episode would have to be my second favorite breh...that entire anime was a mind fukk and the first episode set the plot up good with light finding the book, meeting the shinigami and declaring to become the new "god" :ohlawd:
damn...just talking bout death note makes me want to rewatch the whole thing again lol..shyt was genius :obama:

Elfen Lied :merchant:

This was the first anime that came to mind when I read the thread title. That first episode was insane.

Other than that, I thought Evangelion had a pretty ill start-up episode. Set up a bunch of questions and made you feel for the lead character...and then Gurren Lagaan (sp?) was pretty dope, just the whole underground world and breaking through the surface concept made it interesting.

:myman: whats it about?

The story follows a team of pirates/mercenaries known as Lagoon Company, that smuggles goods in and around the seas of Southeast Asia in the early to mid 1990s.Their base of operations is located in the fictional harbor city of Roanapur in southeast Thailand (somewhere in the Amphoe Mueang Trat district, likely on the mainland north/northeast of the Ko Chang island or on the island itself). They transport goods in the 80-foot (24 m) Elco-type PT boat Black Lagoon. Lagoon Company does business with various clients, but has a particularly friendly relationship with the Russian crime syndicate Hotel Moscow. The team takes on a variety of missions—which may involve violent firefights, hand-to-hand combat, and nautical battles—in various Southeast Asian locations, even going as far as Phu Quoc island of Vietnam and when not doing much, the members of the Lagoon Company spend much of their down time at The Yellow Flag, a bar in Roanapur which is often destroyed in firefights.
