It sparked a pretty big controversy when it came out.


Many felt it depicted them as savages and used the human sacrificies more associated with aztecs. Plus the ominous ending with the europeans coming in was seen as typical white washing like "dirty savages needing to be saved."


I don't know i havent seen it since the theatrr. I may give it another chance. I just remember being so excited for it and i purposely had read almost nothing about it going in.



Maybe ill like it more now.




I do think mel gibson had a very promising career as a film maker. Too bad hes such a scum bag lol.

Interesting.....I always saw it as the main character was part of a Mayan tribe (which were more peaceful) and was captured by Aztecs (which were into human sacrifices). They were all supposed to be Mayans? Personally I thought it was a great movie and looking back it holds up even better. Just the fact that he used all native/mexican actors and kept it in their language without sacrificing any quality, in fact this made the movie even better. That's achievement all in itself in hollywood. Showed that there's no excuse for a movie like Exodus to be coming out in this day and age
