Turned that garbage off after 30 mins.Speaking of mel I actually really enjoyed "the beaver"
It was talked more in Latin America .. A lot of people were upsetnever seen someone interpret that way either, and I still don't see the logic. It ended like that because that literally happened around that time period, it's almost ironic, you escape such a crazy experience with your life, only to see that shyt on the horizon.
When the movie came out it was discussed extensively.
Mind you the movie came out in the midst of gibsons public image being destroyed with his racist and anti semitic comments. So the movie was dissected.
I'm surprised you've never heard that it was a fairly big controversy at the films release.

I agree Mel Gibson could have been one of the better film makers. But he decided to go turn into a crazy cac instead.
Well, I pretty much learned to stop listening to media backlash so that might explain why I didn't hear about it.
That's sort of what I meant as well, but it adds that both groups (the tribe he escapes from and the incoming fleet) came to conquer. Their way of life (of peace) was coming to an end either way, because even if you escape one predator, the other might already lurking on the horizon.

You can literally find dozens of articles about it. Hell even read reviews of the film.calling it racist. I can remember that clearly when it was released maybe you guys have just forgotten.
Loved this flick.
I didn't take that last scene to be about white saviors, I assumed it was white imperialist. They were too busy fighting themselves that they didn't even see the real threat to their existence coming and weren't prepared to combat it.
Odd seeing this being referred to as generic, not many other movies like it imo
Many felt it depicted them as savages and used the human sacrificies more associated with aztecs. Plus the ominous ending with the europeans coming in was seen as typical white washing like "dirty savages needing to be saved."
