Loved this flick.

I didn't take that last scene to be about white saviors, I assumed it was white imperialist. They were too busy fighting themselves that they didn't even see the real threat to their existence coming and weren't prepared to combat it.

Odd seeing this being referred to as generic, not many other movies like it imo

hold up, people saw the ending as the white people were coming as saviours to clense them of their ways? :wtf:

I didn't take that from the ending, i took it as "and just when they thought life couldn't get any harder, here come the white folk with their guns and dieases".

never seen someone interpret that way either, and I still don't see the logic. It ended like that because that literally happened around that time period, it's almost ironic, you escape such a crazy experience with your life, only to see that shyt on the horizon.
It was talked more in Latin America .. A lot of people were upset

Yea that's not how I interpreted the ending at all.

The way I understood it, it was the movie's way of saying "there's always a bigger dude in the neighborhood so watch out."

When the movie came out it was discussed extensively.

Mind you the movie came out in the midst of gibsons public image being destroyed with his racist and anti semitic comments. So the movie was dissected.

I'm surprised you've never heard that it was a fairly big controversy at the films release.

Well, I pretty much learned to stop listening to media backlash so that might explain why I didn't hear about it.

That's sort of what I meant as well, but it adds that both groups (the tribe he escapes from and the incoming fleet) came to conquer. Their way of life (of peace) was coming to an end either way, because even if you escape one predator, the other might already lurking on the horizon.

I agree Mel Gibson could have been one of the better film makers. But he decided to go turn into a crazy cac instead. :dead:

Lots of crazy cacs, they just aren't crazy enough to take on the Jews. They would have forgiven the rants towards his prostitute Russian golddigger. The n-bomb dropped during the voice mail message was shocking, but it didn't completely derail his career in the same way as ranting about Jews did.

It's too bad. Gibson films are always watchable. He has directorial skills. Wonder what he'd need to do, to get Polanski level forgiveness.

That's an interesting interpretation. I don't like it cuz it represents hopelessness.

I prefer to see it as if they weren't too busy fighting each other, they'd actually be able to combat the outside threat. Yanno, divided we fall, united we stand.

You can literally find dozens of articles about it. Hell even read reviews of the film.calling it racist. I can remember that clearly when it was released maybe you guys have just forgotten.

This is exactly how I saw the last scene. Maybe because I interpreted apocalypto to mean the same as apocalypse which to me means the end of the world aka white people about to bring the real terror.
:manny: The movie was very dope though :wow:

Many felt it depicted them as savages and used the human sacrificies more associated with aztecs. Plus the ominous ending with the europeans coming in was seen as typical white washing like "dirty savages needing to be saved."
:ohhh:
lol people actually felt this way? the arrival of the white man was literally their apocalypse.......

EDIT: I see me the above poster are on the same page haha
