Wow. Tevin is alright, but top 3 all time? I am sorry, but think about some of the guys you are putting him above:

1. Sam Cooke
2. Smokey Robinson
3. Michael Jackson
4. Johnny Taylor
5. Marvin Gaye
6. Frankie Beverly
7. El DeBarge
8. Bobby DeBarge
9. Al Green
10. Donny Hathaway
11. Phillip Bailey
12. Jeffrey Osborne
13. Lenny Williams

And many, many, many more. That is not even guys from the deep voice club like Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass and Brooke Benton.
All them cats can sang...sang damn good.

But imo the range and effortless combination of how he could harmonize and go up and down the scale, Tevin was a bad boy....

He was o.k., but even on range he couldn't mess with some of those dudes. I didn't even list guys like Peabo Bryson and Aaron Neville. I like Tevin Campbell though, but just listen to a couple of the voices in these songs. Is Tevin really in these guys league? I am not being critical I am just asking for your honest assessment after listening to just a couple of these guys.

I wasn't ranking them. I was just throwing names in there off the top of my head that I thought were ahead of Tevin Campbell. I did not even list Eddie Kendrick or Nick Ashford, so that shows that I was just writing names that came into my mind.

If I was ranking them though I would list Sam Cooke and then everybody else.

First of all those are names that I listed that I thought were better than Tevin Campbell. They were not in any particular order they were just names that came to mind at the time and listed them off the top of my head. Now here are the rest of my comments:

1. You clearly never heard Johnny Taylor in his prime. That nikka replaced Sam Cooke in the Soul Stirrers. Do yourself a favor and listen to some of Johnny Taylor's early stuff.

2. Reread my post and you clearly see that I mentioned Teddy Pendergrass, Barry White and Brooke Benton at the bottom of my post. I put them in the deep voice club, which is different than Tevin Campbell's basic sound. Reread my post.

3. The list provided is not meant as a ranking. It is just names of singers that I could recall off the top my head I thought were better vocally than Tevin Campbell. So Smokey Robinson is not number two on my list, but he was the second guy that I could remember while writing the post. Notice that I didn't even mention Eddie Kendricks in my initial post, which was guy that was very good.

4. Stevie would be on my list if I actually sat down and did a true ranking. I wasn't a big fan of Luther Vandross, Freddie Jackson or Brian McKnight. I kind of see them the same way that I see Tevin Campbell. They were o.k., but I would not put them among the all time greats. There are too many older singers, like Curtis Mayfield, Jerry Butler, Bobby Womack, David Ruffin, etc. and more contemporary singers like R. Kelly, that were probably better.

5. Frankie Beverly and Donnie Hathaway are listed because I thought they were better than Tevin Campbell. That is not where I would actually rank them though in any real list.

6. Put together your own list nikka.

For the last time. The post was of guys that I stated were better than Tevin Campbell's ass. Those were just guys off the top of my head that I listed that were better than Tevin Campbell; it was not a ranking of the actual singers. You nikkas need to read the posts after that post to get the gist of what is being said, rather than coming in talmbout where I ranked somebody.

I'd rank his career somewhere between O'Bryan

And J-Holiday.

But his voice talent alone is top 7 Male vocalist of all time.

you left out this

90s were about harder edged singing acts, true indeed..........that's the legacy of Bobby Brown, but boyz 2 men ate in the 90s

I was geniunely surprised that Tevin didn't become an alltime great....he had the voice

Funny thing is that’s an original instrumental from The Brothers Johnson... I had no idea that was the case until I found their album recently.. Tevin made this shyt his song though!!! Quincy Jones was the man behind it all anyway.

By the way this is one of my top 5 greatest instrumentals of all time
