There's credence to that: the solstice/equinox and holidays around them. pretty much any holiday is dependent on calendar/sun.

But the real worship is money. We see it, touch it, and witness it's impact in our daily lives and struggles without. It transcends race and religion. The milky way galaxy doesn't have one sun. That thing in the middle that the rest of the stars revolve around in the galactic core is actually a dense collection of stars that revolve around a super massive black hole that is the result of many stars dying and going super nova.

Basically we are all just circling a massive galactic drain at the center of the galaxy.
