food for thought

MJ(88-98') vs Kobe (01-10') playoffs, for all intents and purposes both players primes

Super defense(under 101 DRtg)

GM PPG FGA FG% TS%
Jordan 11 31.3 26.5 39.4% 50.0%
Kobe 56 27.2 22.2 43.8% 52.6%

Similar level, only difference is Kobe faced that level of defense 56 times while mike only 11.

Elite defense(101-104)

GM PPG FGA FG% TS%
Jordan 38 31.9 24.3 46.5% 55.6%
Kobe 33 29.4 24.3 44.0% 53.3%

solid to average defense(104-107)

GM PPG FGA FG% TS%
Jordan 79 33.3 24.8 49.9% 57.4%
Kobe 48 29.9 22.0 46.6% 57.4%

Week defense(107+)
GM PPG FGA FG% TS%
Jordan 41 35.2 25.9 51.5% 58.7%
Kobe 11 30.8 22.1 49.8% 60.8%

30 more games against bad defenses then Bean.

So again, performed on a similar level but Mike had the luxuary of facing mediocre to flat out bad defensive teams in the playoffs then Kobe. So this myth that mike is vastly superior playoff performer is just that.... A myth

:comeon:u can keep your food for thought.jordan got so many great playoff games and what kobe got like 2

:childplease:..........alot of asinine shyt in this post....

Haha just saying Kobe can't be compared to the Goat when he's not even the best player on "his" team anymore. I watched Kobe shoot the Lakers out of so many games last season. Not saying he can't help the Lakers, because that's crazy. He just needs to play differently and stop trying to be Jordan.

truthfully though, Kobe was always fighting an uphill battle

dude played with the most dominant player since Wilt and was the 2nd best player on his team for the first 3 rings... dudes that watched Jordan saw him win Finals MVP and be the best player on his squad each and every season, I think that right there is what did it

Player A career stats: 30.1 ppg, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 50% fg

Player B career stats: 25.4 ppg, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 45% fg

Player C career stats:25.2 ppg, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 49% fg

and yet somehow Kobe stans say it's blasphemous to put their guy (Player B) on the same level as Wade (Player C) despite Wade having better career stats and delusionally think Kobe should be mentioned in the same breath as MJ (Player A)... someone explain that to me

I mean let's completely disregard the fact that Player B has played 7 more seasons than Player C...

MJ will always have the better body of work

But I don't really see any evidence for mike being better if we're just talking about basketball skills. Even Phil has noted this

As for the postseason, prime Kobe and prime Michael performed on the same level or slightly different when facing similar defenses. The big difference is that Jordan faced more below average to Medicore defensive teams then Kobe especially in the finals.

Look at the defensive teams both have faced in the finals
Kobe:
2001 76ers - 98.9 DRtg (#5)
2002 Nets - 99.5 DRtg (#1)
2004 Pistons - 94.1 DRtg (#2)
2008 Celtics - 98.9 (#1)
2009 Magic - 101.9 DRtg (#1)
2010 Celtics - 103.8 DRtg (#5)

Jordan

1991' Lakers- 105.0 Drtg(#5)
1992' Blazers -104.2Drtg(#3)
1993 Suns- 106.7Drtg(#9)
1996 Sonics-102. DRtg(#2)
1997 Jazz-104.0 Drtg(#9)
1998 Jazz-105.4 Drtg(#17)

I mean its night and day.

Another thing....on an individual level, people like Lebron more than they do Kobe. I guarantee you, someone will disregard this research and find it laughable but, would say nothing if you found Dallas & OKC's rankings to compare Bron. Being a Kobe fan, you just have to :skip: at the bullshyt. nikkas said Kobe could never compare because he failed at so many things Jordan wouldn't have. Well, Jordan wouldn't have scored 8 points either :skip:

Yeah that's bullshyt. :what: Where do nikkas even come up with this stuff? The media was ready to crown Kobe the next Jordan before this nikka even had a starting job. :stopitslime:

When the fukk was the media ready to crown kobe the next jordan? And not like the way they crowned lebron, they crowned that dude king james when he was still in highschool. GTFOH

The only reason the media backed off of lebron was because of the decision which soiled him in their eyes but winning that first champioship fits back right into that king james title they created for him.

When his team lost by 28 points to get eliminated in 2003

When he shot 19-59 (32%) the last three games of the 2004 Finals

When his team lost by 30+ points in Game 7 after blowing a 3-1 lead

When his team lost by 40 to lose the Finals in 2008

When his team lost by 30+ points to get eliminated in 2011

If he played well in those games, maybe it would be a different story :manny:

I'd say when he got knocked out the playoffs prematurely the past two years, and his overall performance decline. Hes not helping his team much and cant lead them to a title anymore. The Dwight/Nash trade disqualifies him even if he does win a title again.

Not to mention Lebron just passed Kobe up in pretty much everyones opinion. A beter debate will soon be 2nd best shooting guard of all time: KOBE OR WADE?

So Bron aint guilty of this also? Wade's going down top 5 shooting guard of all time. Howard isn't going down a top 5 center. There's only two people better than Wade. That's Lebron's teammate :wtf: This is why I dont take you Bron cats serious. You criticize somebody when you're the biggest offender.

1. Jordan
2. Kobe
3. Wade

1. Wilt
2. Kareem
3. Hakeem
4. Robinson/Ewing
5. Russell

Howard fits nowhere on this list.

Micheal Jordan has 3 of the top 10 (5th, 7th, 8th) Win Shares per 48 seasons in history. Kobe has 1 in the top 250 at 195th. Michael Jordan has 10 better WS/48 seasons than Kobe.

Michael Jordan has 2 of the top 15 Win Shares seasons in history and is the only player in the three point era in the top 15. Kobe's best season is 95th. Michael Jordan has 10 better Win Shares seasons than Kobe's best.

Michael Jordan has 4 of the top 10 PER seasons in history. Kobe's best season is 50th. Jordan has 7 better PER seasons than Kobe's best.

These numbers are a better way than raw statlines to compare players. Michael Jordan on his seventh or eighth or ninth or tenth best year is better than Kobe at his production peak. Facts are facts. Anyone with a brain than is smart enough to use the greater than function and is able to flip through basketball reference for 5 minutes can see that Michael Jordan is the best player in the three point era and there never was at any point any serious argument to say that Kobe Bryant was better.
