Now, Im not one to knock someone who has a healthy interest in a culture outside of their own, however I have to admit I do :mjpls:whenever I see some black people here in America who try to lay claim or talk about "getting back to our roots" in regards to Egypt when we are ethically and genetically West African, which has nothing to do with the Egyptian region whatsoever.

Its slightly concerning that so many people are so gung ho about Egypt (a country thats in a way been "validated" by whites as a great civilization) but I don't see that same type of fervor towards (the just as incredible) west/central African cultures/empires/civilizations that we actually have a connection to. Why is that?

thoughts?

You realize people moved throughout all parts of Africa just as we move around to different places today, right? Egypt was not isolated, nor were the people living there just from that region. I think you may want to read up more on the subject. And people from Africa were coming to the 'Americas' before the slave trade began so many here may not even have been taken from West Africa.

But I don't want to even go any deeper, I would just ask you to read more on the subject before regurgitating white supremacist talking points.

I lived there for many years and got to learn a lot about the history along the way. I did meet some AAs that came there with delusions of grandeur about Ancient Egypt only to end up disappointed.
I remember another black student that was with me in Egypt put it best when she called ancient Egypt "scraps" of black African history, which is basically what it is. I think Black Americans care so much about Egypt only because White people glorify it so much. There are so many other ancient African cultures to care about beside Egypt. Of course, Black Africans (Nubians) were at times rulers of Egypt, ruled by Egypt (even captured slaves as disturbingly depicted on monments), enemies and friends of Egypt and even intermixed with Egyptians but to say that Egypt was this original black country who was erased by white surpremicy is kind of reaching. Even the ancient Egyptians distinguished themselves from Nubians and other groups in the region.
It's not completely our fault. I mean, how much do we really learn about Africa outside of Egypt in school? I think in grade school we spent about 10 minutes learning about Khartoum, Benin..etc.

Your rep indicates that you are not worthy of a legitimate response. Furthermore, "I am not a cac" is not nearly specific enough for me to overlook that red and actually give a serious response.

However, to be clear, he has no point other than to spew his white supremacist mentality.

:camby: with that "black history doesn't matter unless it's slavery" rhetoric.

You don't have a serious response just more silly hotep hogwash about how you are related to a group of people who didn't call themselves black, but oddly you do.

Benin is much more interesting and they are direct ancestors. Nsibidi, Benin bronzes, etc. I don't mind it because Egypt is cool and they share our dna so there is a connection. But really Benin is so fukking dope when you research it. I would love more balance when talking about black African history. Black folks just like the fact that Egypt taught cacs and somewhat the moors. Which is why we gravitate. But they gotta realize places like Benin at their hieght were massive and have amazing history. Also OP and people being upset are clearly cacs mad that they can't claim anything as great. You are a raging racist with disgusting entitlement issues.

Who gave you the authority to tell black people what should and should not matter to us?

What are you smoking that allows you to believe that you are some sort of authority on how black people should process history or if we should process it at all?

You know nothing of our experience. You don't have to live it. Why are you in this discussion?

Calling a spade a spade is not ad hominem. You are suffering from grand delusions. You think because you know some slang and other frivolous cultural aspects that we are supposed to ignore your disgusting racist/ white supremacist mentality.

Racism doesn't always wear a hood. In fact it's most often smiling in your face saying "what up doe".:pacspit:

I was gonna leave it alone but I need to assert this: I'm not a fukking racist. I hate white supremacy. I have never said anything racist on this site, and I've never been called or even been implied to be a racist ever in my life. That's a ridiculous charge and you're just using it because you can't come up with legitimate arguments to attack really a benign, neutral, and non-racist opinion I have on this issue. Saying the race of ancient cultures doesn't matter is the opposite of racist :heh:

FOH with your wack, sensationalist clown tactics :camby:

Why claim Pharoahs when most of the people in Ancient Eygpt were slaves?

Most of the people in Ancient Egypt were not slaves and the slave population was relatively small compared to other empires like the Romans and Persians. Even then, slaves had social mobility and could move up the social hierarchy. You brought up the Han and Ming dynasty both had slaves so should the Chinese not rock with them? Persians and western whites both respectively revere ancient Persian and Roman empires despite the act of slavery so why should ancient Egypt shunned for the same practice?

But why claim them as black ? Why do hoteps apply modern societal terms like race and black towards people that had no concept of it?

What year is it okay to apply race?

Why apply race to Benin, or Mali. Do you have a problem with people saying the dogon are black? Is it wrong to say the Soninke people of tichitt walata are black? Or is it just Egyptians?
