You would be suprised at how many people over the years have told me that Ilmatic was not a great album and is outdated. Most times its a young cat still in his early 20', so i try to school them to the greatness of Illmatic. But ain't no talking to them young boys.

very true. albums created before 2000 in general have that problem. although the west coast was far ahead of the pack in terms of mastering in the 90s.

If U like your music loud and thin then the digital age of music is for U...Dre is the master at mastering...Dogg Food wouldn't sound nearly as good w/o him!!

I hate the word dated, when you talk about music.
The sound of illmatic is obviously dated, the sound of 2005 is dated as well.

BUT what does that mean? That it isn't a 5/5 top 10 album?

Starwars "4-6" are dated as hell, in fact all action movies from pre like 2005 are dated as fukk. But the dope ones are still classics, still as godly.

all 78 percent are on rap forums :whoa:

Statistics show the 22% that don't have internet are in rural areas.

So yeah, most rap fans have access to the internet.

Whether or not most of the 78% is rap fans has nothing to do with anything. Again, what you said makes no sense in 2012.

also 99% of people you know in your everyday aren't nearly as knowledgeable about the topic as someone constantly perusing this forum or using the internet

so the fact they haven't heard everything or aren't able to rattle it off as one of their favorite albums doesn't mean the claim holds no merit. matter of fact, if you hear something on the internet, it might (might being the key word) hold more weight

Most hip hop or music in general from the late 80's early 90's sounds dated

Enta da stage sounds dated. The movies scarface, superman I & II,III and IV look dated

What ya'll need to do is stop calling illmatic the "hip hop bible" cuz it's not.It was an average album released in 94

Have some green breh. :smugfavre:

As far as what you said, yeah. Exactly. In this decade in particular, because the amount of internet users blew the fukk up. If this was '94 or some shyt then "only on the internet" would actually make sense. Nowadays, when damn near 80% of the population has internet? Nah.

the best coast
Cosign the West being ahead of the game as far as mastering, but let's not forget most of the classic Hip Hop made at that time was intentionally made to sound dusty and grimy. That was the style.

Also, a lot of music today is just overly compressed and LOUD. Producers nowadays just squeezing the life out of the mids and overdosing on subs and highs to create this false illusion of crystallized beats.

Futuristic garbage, lol.:lolbron:

Cold part about it, Planet Rock still bangs harder at the club and sounds more
futuristic than most of the doo doo Fruity Loops that nikkas swear is so hot.
:heh:

also true. i understand the appeal of that sound, but i never really cared for it too much. although rza was amazing at making samples sound like they were being recorded live in the studio.

and the beat is leveled the same as the vocals, it sounds :ohlawd: one thing about new age producers/engineers i dont like is they put a lotta emphasis on deeper bass, almost to the point that it drowns out the vocals :why: i get that they all want beats that bump (which i can appreciate :ahh:) but sometimes it just too much

Here we go again:

1) It is dated.
2) "Dated" doesn't mean "bad".
3) Did this nicca just call it "The Bible"?? CURVE...
