Snyder missed the entire point of Superman.

Frank Miller is a Nazi as well.

I’m not a fan of Frank Miller, but he at least understands the characters enough to write his story, and tell it well. Snyder on the other hand doesn’t. And it’s not just that he doesn’t understand them, he thinks the tenets of superheroes in general is just silly. He said it himself. He didn’t get superheroes, but then he read Watchmen, and it had sex and violence, and was all like OMG! But even with that, Alan Moore knows about the superhero, and can tell a way better story than Miller any day of the week. So he can deconstruct the superhero and also add some of his political views. It's why his run of Marvelman/Miracleman was so well done. He understands the tenets of the superhero genre. Snyder doesn't. He doesn't get a character like Superman who is at the core altruistic. Superman has that country, farm boy innocence and charm, but also the self confidence of not only his god like abilities, but his altruistic values that he strongly stands by and believes in. He isn't damaged. He had a happy and positive upbringing with the Kents. Snyder doesn't even understand them.

I'll also say this. Anyone can try to argue that, but remember this. DC tried to put Superman more in line with the MoS Superman, in the New 52. What version of Superman is back now? With the red underwear too.....

If supes run his little ass out there to save the day. The crib get bubble wrapped by government. End of movie and earth as zod has no deterrent to terraform earth into krypton. As supes never grows to be a man and is dissected By the government. Plus the codec is easily retrieved by zod attacking the government as well.

Art u are spot on. In all marvel properties they explore how people would react in the real world not some campy comic. I think the best bridge for this gen Supes would be a mix between MOS and the smallville series to appease the fans but u can only cram so much into 1 movie and there was a plan for his ascension from timid to superhero but the execs fukked that up

MOS was flawed but it got shat on tremendously for no reason, people talking out the side of their neck about a character they know nothing about outside of cartoons and a 50 year old movie. People complaining about destruction in a movie full evil kryptonians.

I've seen worse Marvel and DC films get praise.
