What's the consensus on the Eliptical machine?

I recently came up on a manual one. Used it twice already and worked up a nice sweat.

I usually try to jog, but I have a bad knee. How is the machine compared to jogging? Decent for fat loss?

Doesnt matter, If the lack of knee pain keeps you consistent and going longer then stay with the Elliptical. Once you reach your ideal weight your knees may be able to sustain the weight of your own body while jogging. It all boils down to maintaining an elevated heart rate for a certain amount of time. The means by which you achieve that is not important unless those means are counter productive like jogging on concrete with weak knees.

I hear people mention the treadmill being boring, I'd suggest skipping rope. Its hard to be bored when your heart is beating out of your chest from 30-60 second intervals, and its the primary thing i relied on while losing weight because all that other shyt wasnt agreeing with me being:flabbynsick: and all

I use it to warm up for a gym workout and to cool down from it, that's it.

As for cardio/conditioning, it's too easy. However, I've been working out hard for years.

I prefer:

Running sprints for reps at a field or park (wearing cleats)
running laps at the track
running up long flights of stairs
sprinting up hills

Lazy people hate it, but it is the best way to get your high intensity cardio workout without tearing up your limbs. If you do it enough, it cuts fat very quickly.

It's apart of my workout.... at least one hour per session. On my days off, I go twice per day.

No lies told.... they always have excuses as to why they don't want to get on it.... and if they do, it's only for 10-20min before they bytch out. The killing part is that I'm a big dude and I stay on there for an hour.... sometimes multiple times per day.

The mental torture of being on the machine for an hour is what kills people. If they did it for a week or two, they could break that mental block and would actually like the machine.

Once I got over my apprehension and saw the benefits, I've loved it. Been doing hour long elliptical workouts since I was in my mid-late 20s.... and I still hit the weights afterwards.

Personally it's boring to me and inefficient for me. That doesn't mean I'm lazy. I can get better work done for my goals in a shorter time :manny:

An hour? Hell nah, most ill do is a half. But I do love the machine. Definitely part of my daily routine and will take it over the treadmill 10 times out of 10

I've always believed the opposite of this. I think the elliptical is for lazy people who don't really want to work hard. I don't get much of a work out on it and rarely use it. If I do use it it's for the range of motion it gives my legs and arms. I'll put it to the hardest setting and just use the resistance as a way to build power in my arms. I don't feel like I get a hard work out on it.

@The ADD tell me about Cardiac Hill since you ran Peachtree last year. I haven't even tried running the course to get familiar with it
