Life
I've read books on the basics of the religions and I want to learn more. I have also practiced some rituals especially around the new year.

Edit: I also keep an altar to my ancestors.
I am half togolese and my mom is from the region where voodoo originates. Funny, my ancestral line has turned away from the religion and fully embraced Christianity.

My people didn't really do that shyt....

I'm pretty sure they did.

From the Aztecs in Mexico to the Native Americans in the North America to the Nordics in Europe to the Africans in Africa & the Middle East all practiced some form of ancient religious rituals. Some of them which included human sacrifices.

Divination you will find among the black magician/occultist where they use sigils and incense.

Incantations you will find among the voodoo/sorcererist where they use veves and libation.

So it is the religion of ALL our ancestors, but those spirits that are conjured up seals your fate with them. That means you pick your lord and master. And a lot of the practitioners and followers are totally aware of that and made their decision.

A lot of those who practice the dark arts will admit Angels exist.. You have to understand there are people who do not want to live among the Angels and rather live with the Gods of their ancestors in the afterlife.

One thing for certain your final destiny follows whats in your heart & soul.

Men in the mode of goodness worship the demigods; those in the mode of passion worship the demons; and those in the mode of ignorance worship ghosts and spirits.

When I think about it, a lot of the ancient people did not really know of God as we know of him today, sometimes all they knew were "spirits" (i.e., Gods of their ancestors).

Even today, a lot of places that practices sorcery, do not know of heaven or hell. All they know is when they die they will be among their ancestors, they will describe it as a place that is vacant not as good as earth (but the "spirits" must provide a home for them or the people will not worship those "spirits").

What makes us realize that there is another side to the spiritual world is the existence of Angels, some voodooist are aware of Angels in the most basic sense. Angels were created by God, just like the "spirits" (i.e., Gods of their ancestors) were also created by God. They will also tell you Angels are stronger than "spirits" (i.e., Gods of their ancestors). As far as they know Angels are only there to stop or weaken their magic.

They will also tell you the "spirits" (i.e., Gods of their ancestors) can not overcome anything willed by God and his Angels, talk to any occultist or voodooist and they will tell you its not of a "spiritual nature" but "caused by God." So they do not deny the existence of God, but they either "do not want to" or "do not know how to" serve him.

Speaking for my family members some think the practice is satanic/against God's will. There are still many who practice it but hide behind Christianity. It is not practiced openly anymore.

I hear a lot of Dominicans intermingle their Santeria with Catholocism as well...

I got crazy knowledge on this. Funnily enough I found myself researching this topic in the last few weeks.

I came across detailed accounts of Jamaican Obeah (Vodoo) From a man called Captain Ratlin who was an researcher, explorer, sailer of sorts who was basically there to witness the transition of the Akan/Kromanti Tribe from Present day Ghana yo Jamaica. He studies their customs, religion etc. In his writings he speaks extensively on Obeah its Akan origin.

He also gives accounts of the Akan origin of Obeah, how Obeah was perceived at that time in Jamaica etc.

I'll be brief because I could write pages on this.

Obeah as instrumental in the rebellions of the slave, the European masters outlawed Obeah in Jamaica because of this (still is illegal today)

We know not, the power we have

A spirit world does exist.

Just be aware whoever you serve and conjure, will be your lord and master. You will belong to them and they will belong to you.
