What's so special about rushing for a 1,000 yards in a season?

My point was that nikkaz are jaded by the stars my ninja. 1000 yards is pretty f*ckin' good, it's just not good compared to Arian Foster or Adrian Peterson, same like 20 ppg is pretty f*ckin' good in the L, but it doesn't get respected because all you see on ESPN is KD, Lebron, and Kobe going for 30 every night. A 3 down 1000 yard back is still special, and will always be special, peep how Marshawn Lynch carried the Seahawks yesterday. People fiend for the Chris Johnsons, but what carries franchises are the Terrell Davises, Earl Campbells, Jerome Bettises, etc etc.

one of these names does not fit. had you said Curtis Martin instead of TD you woulda been spot on.

people have actually analyzed the numbers way too far, and forgot how physical the actual game of football works

at minimum, you gotta carry the ball 200+ times to get that 1,000... and you're gonna be getting hit... over the course of a season, that's a shytload of punishment.

you always hear about player x having x amount of 1,000 yard seasons...why is that the benchmark?

it's 62 yards a game. that's supposed to be impressive?:rudy:

any halfway decent running back can achieve it, whether they share carries or not.

now if it's 1300 or 1400 yard seasons we're talking about:obama:

the benchmark was set back when the season was 14 games long. it is still a fairly impressive stat, considering only 14 RB's hit the mark last year

It's not.

I've been saying this for years now. THe NFL is a league that is all about stat padding so any nice round number that they can throw at you to impress you is used for that purpose. Now i know these stats arent easy to achieve over a season but when you break it down to a per game performance it really makes you wonder like WTF is so great about that.

Come to think of it there is Nothing special about:

  • 1,000 receiving yards. Same as rushing
  • 3,000 passing yards. It's just ~188 yards passing per game. YOu tell me when was the last time a QB had 188 yards and you celebrated that as a great game.

Hell I know ya'll hate when i say this but i'll take it even further and say i still dont see the point in getting the opportunity for the Point after touchdown. Name me another sport where if you score you get another free shot to add to it DESPITE the fact there was no penalty on the scoring play. I understand each sport is different and will have their own little nuances but :comeon:

Kidding about what? I made several points.

And at 4,000 you're pretty much considered elite but 3,000 yards always gets mentioned as if it's a major achievement too.

bc u slight the #'s in such a physical sport that requires constant consistency to achieve the #'s. it's the consistency, meaning 1 one thousand yard rushing season doesn't man much, but if you have consistently put up one thousand yard seasons, then thats highly impressive

and 4k is the benchmark... 3k is barely mentioned

Nah if a player is consistently putting up 1,000+ rushing yards then fine. It shows you have durability.

I'm talking about how people be saying player such and such "was a thousand yard rusher last season" as if thats supposed to mean much. Ronnie Brown is the perfect example of this when he played for us (Dolphins). His 1,000 season was soo... blah. Like I dont give him much props for it at all.

with all the RB tandems and teams using multiple backs to keep their rbs healthy, it's a lot tougher.

i think shyt like yards per carry average is more impressive i forgot who i think it was jamaal charles or d williams, they were averaging like 5 a carry

3000 yards passing is not mentioned as a major achievement.

And like another person said, remember the NFL hasnt always had 16 game seasons. At one point they only had 12 games.

Modern day bench marks...

1500yds rushing = elite (though with it being a passing league I'd drop this down to 1200 perhaps)
1300yds receiving with 10+ td's = elite
4000yds passing with 30+ td's = elite

The highest single-season rushing yards per carry average in NFL history is 4.29…set in 2011.

When has the NFL not been a "passing league". It's been a "passing league" since the illegal contact rule of 1978 opened up the passing game more
