Don't get me wrong, I like high end fashion too, but you will never see me wearing skirts, a kilt, or anything like that. That's not wavy for men IMO period...I don't care if they do, I just will think it's wack and trendhopperish.

nah I think pac resisted and reinforced what it meant to be masculine at the time, I'm sure there were dudes going "He's got a nose ring? fukking homo!" at the time too

So if you don't think gender roles and such are important that's on you... but a lot of people in the black community do.

Hollywood is one of the main avenues wher you can see a black person be hyper-succeful and gain wealth. It also puts them in the spotlight of huge audiences and reinforces particular notions and behaviors. The TV and silver screen is a lot more powerful than what you give it credit for, this has been known for decades upon decades while the average joe thinks nothing of it.

Like I edited in at the last second, there's a huge difference between what Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy have done and what Kanye did by wearing a kilt thing. Something like Big Momma's House is inevitably tied into the historical context of the portrayal of blacks in popular media. It reinforces rather than subverts. They're minstrel shows for a modern audience. I think there's room to look at Kanye taking a skirt and depoliticizing it as a political act. He's gonna wear that shyt and nobody's gonna call him a Stepin Fechit.
