What was your favorite console generation?

I'm assuming most of us in here are in the 30yrs+ range with some a bit below that.

For me I think my most favorite console generation was the 6th generation with the 7th generation really really close. Some of my fondest memories were created then and it was at the time when I had way more time to game as responsibilities were mainly school.

Smash Bros Melee single handedly carried that generation for me. GTA San Andreas and Dreamcast with the blassics during it's life span were something to be experienced during the time.


7th gen though was amazing as well and really left a long lasting impression on me specifically with the rise of online MP and more prominent exclusives.

Third and fourth generation consoles I was too young to really appreciate them at the time. The type of games that released during the 96~2004 run were INSANE though.

I'd say 6th generation. The amount of classics on the GameCube, PS2, Dreamcast and Xbox was

i think fifth. tech and budgets decent enough to try new things, and a bridge between 2d and 3d so you got some of both

Fourth gen. Some of those cameras in the 3D games made me nauseous.

I do love the newer 2D games though.

For me it was 6th generation and early 7th gen

Gaming was at its absolute peak

6th and 7th, 7th holding the lead due to the prime XBL days

Might just be nostalgia but PSX had MGS, FF7, Twisted metal, ape escape.

OG xbox had Halo, PGR, Fable, ninja gaiden.

If we extend it to Dreamcast they had NFL 2k, Sonic adventure, Shenmue, powerstone.

All these games came out within a couple years of each other and all of them sit atop my favorite games of all time.

6th Gen, publishers/devs were ready to take risks and had whole teams dedicated to new IP/Genres.

Super Smash Bros Melee, Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart Double Dash, Kirby Air Ride, all the Mario sports games and Mario party games F-zero GX

Def Jam FFNY, Tekken Tag Tournament, Kingdom Hearts, GTA Ps2 era, Devil May Cry Series, DBZ Budokai 3

Even Exbot was hitting with Halo and some games

Then the multiplatform games were fire:
SSX series, Midnight Club, DBZ budokai 1&2, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, Soul Calibur II one of the best fighting games ever, NBA & NFL Street series

DC was fire too
Ready to Rumble Boxing, Sonic, Crazy Taxi, Power Stone, Phantasy Star
