I'd say Drake having ghostwriters. I was a lil disappointed, but if J Cole values more being a good dude in hip hop and it really bothered him, I can respect it on a human level, even though I don't on a hip hop level. But if you're supposed to be a top rapper, you gotta write your rhymes

Yeah of course if you are saying who did the exact same thing he exact same way, no-one has done it yet exact same as Cole.

but Wayne releasing I Miss My Dawgs after Juve did A Hoe was basically the same sentiment.

Hell, Luda released War With God and TI joined him on stage and peaced it up.

Rappers have backed ot of beef before, Cole just went about it the worst way possible. But Drake keeping up this facade that he is this top MC but he has countless songs written for him to the point it's basically an open secret is far worse than what Cole did.

Why are you willing to suspend disbelief and listen to Drake but not suspend disbelief and listen to Cole? You yourself just said they are "equally fraudulent", that's your words. So why you giving one a pass and not the other?

I have two very different relationships with these artists and their music as a fan and an MC myself. Been listening to both of them for 15+ years. It really comes down to Drake making less personal music to me. Drake songs could be about anybody, where Cole's songs are all about HIM.

I knew going into being a Drake fan back in 2006 that he was a Canadian child actor and have always judged him accordingly. When the ghostwriting shyt came out I took an L, but as a Kanye fan growing up, I tuned my ears to when it was a writer versus it being just Kanye. I put them in the same category in my musical thought process. I already know a certain style Drake record has a 75% chance of being ghostwritten at this point. But, as of now, records that anyone would point to as "lyrically elite" Drake records have not been proven to have been written by anybody else. Until that happens, I can "rationalize" him as a more deceitful Kanye who just swapped producing with singing more

Cole, on the other hand, was "Young Simba, couldn't wait to be the King" I've been inspired by his music and his hustle ever since The Warm Up. He's the most relatable out of any MC from the blog era to me. Watching his growth, hearing his hunger, it was all about HIM. HE wants it more. HE is the nicest. HE is the GOAT. HE will murder your favorite rapper. HIM. And that was literally the topic of 85% of his best music in the last 5 years or so, if not his entire career. It pisses me the fukk off to hear one of my favorite MCs talk all this shyt about wanting the top spot just to arbitrarily throw that shyt away with no regard to his legacy. Might Delete Later was my AOTY so far, but how I'm supposed to hear you directly talking about "nikkas don't want no smoke with me, I'm one of them ones" when that's NOT fukkIN TRUE??
