What was up with 2000’s R&B singers using the same beat over different songs?

No different than dancehall or reggaeton artists back then making 60 songs over one riddim :manny:

Hiphop needed the Riddim element.

Hiphop stays losing because too many great and unique beats over 40 years were wasted by weak emcees.

When if it had been a Riddim album you'd have everyone from Nas, Fat Joe, Ghost, Boosie, 'Snoop, Juvie and even Soldier Boy also riding the beat.
Someone will definetly do it justice.

It’s the producer being money hungry sending the same beat to every artist they know. Happens in other genres. My ol boy had a beat that Mozzy ended up using like a year later, also Sean Paul deport them and Mr Vegas Jack it up are the same beat no variation at all

I could have swore 'so fly' was on a mixtape where 213 was jacking for beats like gunit mixtapes but given how buzzworthy the song was, they put it on the album, similar to when Lloyd banks blacked out on his victory freestyle where it was longer and puff made victory 2004 an official release off the strength of mixtapes

This is correct. Was a mixtape track that blew up.

I don't know enough about all that but I do remember loving it when a good HH beat was re-used/remixed by some rnb artist. Not the same as what y'all are talking about, but Mariah reusing Shook Ones blew my mind back then.
