Francis Ford Coppola only had 6 months to get a complex story together and film it.
The first actress they cast for the role of Michael's daughter was killed by her boyfriend before filming, so they picked Winona Rider for the role. Rider dropped out at the last second, so FFC cast his daughter in the role.
Also, Robert Duvall wanted to be payed as much as Al Pachino to revise his role as consigliere. The studio execs didn't want to pay him extra, so he was written out and replaced.
All that unexpected shyt ruined the film.

I agree it wasn't the script that made Pacino fukk up his performance as Michael it was his own doing. Dude played Michael like an extrovert throughout the movie when Michael was alwys much more introverted. And he didnt speak with the same educated language as Michael. I hate part 3 cuz GF 1 and 2 are my favorite movies. Also how do you stab some one with the leg of a pair of glasses?
The kills scenes were pretty bad. The helicopter massacre was just out of place. More of a die hard scene. Best scene is when Andy Garcia murks the two dudes in his apt.

but does the shyt go down in the books just like in the movies?
For the most part. A lot is left out. The first scene in godfather 1 where the mortician is asking Vito to kill the men who assaulted his daughter. They don't show how Vito orders that retaliation, the brutal beat down of those guys takes place in the book.

Plus the book focused more on Johnny Fontaine and Sonny's mistress.

IMO the bigger problem with Godfather III was Robert Duvall not returning. There were many Godfather III ideas and halfwritten scripts that were thrown out over the years/decade, but perhaps the most interesting was one about Michael and Tom falling out.

This was not the original plan for the Hagen character. Originally, Hagen was to be the chief antagonist to Michael in The Godfather Part III, as Hagen, the adopted German-Irish son, vied for control of the Corleone Empire over the dwindling family and aging Michael.

Sounds far more interesting. Also Connie found out Michael killed Fredo, causing her to side with Tom against Michael. The war would also involve Michael's son, who was a US senator; iirc the idea was that Michael's son, who was clean-ish, would be killed and thus result in complete mayhem.

Copolla allegedly wanted Travolta to play Vincent.

So the helicopter scene and his daughters assassination are not in the book?
i might have to read it..... i never read it because i thought it was like the movie. I like to watch the movie after i read the book (although i always end up hating the movie adaptation ) but i never read a book if i saw the movie first.

My beefs were of course Coppola's daughter.. She was really bad with that valley girl accent. George Hamilton is literally the color orange in GF3. We didn't need to see Kate still holding a grudge against Michael after all these years.. and I wished their son would've followed in his father's footsteps instead of being a f*cking opera singer:beli::snoop: Him being the next in line along with the b*stard Vincent(andy garcia) would've been the new Michael and Sonny combo:noah: They cheated us and really dropped the ball on that one imo.. Could've even gave life for a GF4.:why:

But other than that GF3 is not as bad as people make it out to be. It still was piff. Micheal beefing with the Vatican was kinda ill:lupe:

He can be when he wants to be. His hit to miss ratio is definitely pointing the wrong way these days but he's still great when he wants to be
He merked "Heat". Pacino still had it in him. But he was good in GF3 imo. After killing his brother and not being around his son he changed. He was old and getting weak. That's why he liked Vincent's wild energy and fire. It reminded him of Sonny and of days past.
