It is equal when you compare the magnitude of destruction cause by imperial Japan and the Nazis..... However, imperial Japan's destruction lasted longer than Hitler's destruction. You can call it revenge for Pearl Harbor or karma for what Japan has done to Asia and the Pacific Islands... Japan got served. From what I've read about the events of the bombings, the US didn' want to send in infantry because as someone kinda alluded to, Imperial Japan was a religion. It would have been a slaughter worse than the Vietnam stalemate/ass-whipping(depending on who you ask) because imperial Japan was teaching civilians how to fight and arming them with weapons. Our government used excessive force but that is what it took to destroy imperial Japan and demonstrate power to the USSR.
As someone already mentioned, the Nazi's motivation was to exterminate people of melanin. As the "pure race," everything is/was their birthright. Complete subjugation and dominance over melanated people.
