idk how to feel about this. The video wasn't funny but if they were trying to be funny and make some comedic short it's easy for comedy to go wrong. I just didn't see any real points they were trying to convey with the video. It seemed like a really bad MADTV sketch. But I also understand why many folks would be offended.

I could only watch the beginning. So Hariet had to ask for 'permission' to free the slaves, and of course she uses her sexuality to do it.

Parody or not, this is further pushing the idea that black people are subordinates, and uses perhaps are biggest African American hero, who freed HUNDREDS of slaves, by depicting her as someone who actually just seduced her slave master to convince HIM to do it. So this is both sexist and racist.

But a firestorm of complaints overHarriet Tubman Sex Tape, in which the abolitionist has sex with her master in order to blackmail him into creating the Underground Railroad, led Simmons to pull the video today and issue an apology. “In the whole history of Def Comedy Jam, I’ve never taken down a controversial comedian,” said Simmons in a statement. “When my buddies from the NAACP called and asked me to take down the Harriet Tubman video from the All Def Digital YouTube channel and apologize, I agreed.”

“I’m a very liberal person with thick skin,” he continues. “My first impression of the Harriet Tubman piece was that it was about what one of actors said in the video, that 162 years later, there’s still tremendous injustice. And with Harriet Tubman outwitting the slave master? I thought it was politically correct. Silly me. I can now understand why so many people are upset. I have taken down the video. Lastly, I would never condone violence against women in any form, and for all of those I offended, I am sincerely sorry.”

This was done in bad taste and its not funny at all. But I'm not against us using our history for comedic purposes. Everything about our history is so serious and tragic, I think it's good for us to find ways to laugh about it. I just think this was poorly executed.

Tried and failed miserably. They were just lame about it and downright disrespectful. If we were like other communities and stopped trying to make excuses for fukkery then these things wouldn't keep happening.
