Stop lookin to WHITE MEDIA for actuate depictions of anything.

But someone already said it's a good way to incorporate a "black guy" into the story without him having a completely useless/demeaning role. This country is still prominently white they make media for the mass market.

It depends on the story and the character. Most of the time I don't mind it.

But there is a magical negro element to it.

Like in The Martian, they get Donald Glover's character to whip up some program to get the rocket to Mars.
He is basically like "I got the answer!!!" after punching on his keyboard a couple of times and disappears from the movie.

I have noticed that big blockbuster movies tend to make the black tech guy into a clown or a simp. Prime examples are Anthony Edwards in the first Transformers and Justice Smith in Jurassic World 2.

Anthony Edwards wasn't in transformers.

Also i'm not seeing this trend at all. Most tech guys in any movie are a lil quirky regardless, and when its a black person it usually comes off as cool or charming or its just a regular dude.

Ving Rhames in Mission Impossible series, Luda and whats her name in Fast and Furious, homeboy from Terminator, the various other examples already posted in this thead, none of them were clowns or simps or whatever...

Sometimes it does kind of look like an updated version of the "Magical Negro" trope.

Yeah it's over compensation. I remember time before the BP movie came out for years black comic readers hated the whole wakanda shyt because it reeked of this. Decades of shyt black characters/archetypes? Uh quick how about we create a technologically advanced nation in africa that also still run around with spears and shyt.
