Ever notice how they have black people play the default, computer/comms/tech person? In my opinion it’s now seen as a trope or stereotype at this point, it is it a negative? Black people are commonly looked too as buffoons in a lot of movies so being the computer person is a intellectual plus, at the same time whenever they show a black man as the IT person the main star is a white man who is, quote on quote more “manly” I guess.

Since when are tech/IT roles “intellectual?”

who are some examples?

You think a dumbass could hack, program or trace something on a PC?

Well for one ludacris and that black chick in the fast movies
You’re conflating intelligence/skill in a field with intellectual. They aren’t the same.

I don’t think anything of them, if that’s what you in particular wish to see then keep watching I guess. What are their personalities? Being able to hack, program or trace something on a PC isn’t a character trait.

Ultimately, I want to see more black leads, not more glorified black token roles. We’re probably all on the same page with that.

But yes, Hollywood is not as tone deaf to the token role (which was always just a strategic way to lure black dollars in with faux “inclusion” efforts anyway).

I think this “growth” is partially due to the snowball effect social media + SJW + “cancel culture” etc., can have on viewership and box office.

As a result, studios became more risk averse and altered the token roles to be (somewhat) more capable and less cringe-worthy; to still bait black viewers but mitigate the backlash.

Personally I find these roles to still be largely artificial and half-baked.
