Being aware of someone doesn't mean they had influence. We gave zero fukks about grunge in hip hop. Read the definition of influence.

Influence:
1. The capacity to have an effect on the character, development or behavior of someone or something.

He influenced the rappers that in turn influenced the culture, comparing Kurt Cobain's influence on music as a whole to a tertiary character from the Dukes of Hazzard,is asinine. Looking at a lot of the current crop of alternative rappers, I would say it goes beyond just being aware of ____.
so what you're saying is that he influenced the hip hop audience by proxy of the rappers the people WE'RE ACTUALLY LISTENING TO AND FOLLOWING fuccin hell...

Like other posters have said before, he's just an easy name drop for alternative fukkboys to say when they trying to look cool & "different".

Ian Connor and mad other folks have been doing the same shyt with Morrissey/The Smiths & Joy Division.
travis scott is one of the biggest perpetrators

nardwuar pulled his hoe card and made him have to resort to syaing sh_t like "i like their t-shirts and images" :laff::laff:

To say he had no influence whatsoever is a bit of a stretch. Dude was one of if not THE biggest rock star of HIS time.

I think you guys are downplaying rocks influence because you cant see it.

For example i wouodnt have known guns and roses was a huge influence on the gza if he didnt say so himself.

The sound of grunge imo def setup music moving into those darker areas where before hip hop was still party music. Not saying he did it alone but you couldnt turn on the tv without hearing cobain song playing and im sure MUSICIANS respected that and might have taken a few notes.

The street part of hip hop culture prolly wasnt influenced but the artists def paid attention to who was hot and who wasnt.
Im pretty sure the crack era was the reason hip hop went dark, if anything rock has far more of an influence on the younger generation then again most of these new rappers grew up around cacs so its to be expected.

I know but it expanded on the sound sorta. I never even thought of it until now

Why you gza was on geffen? The gtrs on 4th chamber; erc. There was an overlap between the genres which is how so many white kids got into wu or even public enemy. Wu Skateborda n shyt. Both youth musics, kinda cross balance like punk n hip hop in the 80s.

Least thats how i took it ya know watching tv seeing rappers n rock guys doing those shows n shyt; so dude was well known. Didnt 2pac mention cobain or some shyt. That stiry was everywhere, it influenced everybody. Idk.

Im not saying this for fact just my opinion.

I mean he gets out on the same pedestal as pac n big, someones listening. Hear it more now than ever.

nikkas on here are dense, they only gauge influence by who is biting off of who because they are generally inauthentic about this shyt anyway.

Again, if influence is about having an effect on the character, development and behavior, you can't tell me that he didn't have an effect a lot of these new wave rappers who make everybody mad trying to deviate from 'hippity hop' and dress, behave and craft music like rock stars. Unless you're going to deny that, the next logical step is to examine where it stems from. Wherever you want to start the Hip Hop timeline til current day...name ONE person more iconic in the rock genre that Hip Hop heads would know more about or identify with?

People will give Wayne credit for ushering in the 'rock star' wave...where the fukk you think he got that from? As per his own words.

It ain't rocket science. And it's usually the indirect influencers that actually sway things more so than people who fall prey to biting because that's how it's supposed to be. You're supposed to take your inspiration and weave it into your own thing. nikkas talmbout "bu bu bu who quotes their lyrics though! where's the hashtags, who's wearing their clothes?!".

Fashion wise he still has influence. Ripped jeans and "clout glasses" are still in style right now. Otherwise he's just someone rappers feel cool to reference.

ripped jeans were prominent in hip-hop long before nirvana.

a lot of the street styles now, like the ripped jeans with the matching jean jackets is str8 '80s chit.

Yeah Mobb Deep made dark music because of Kurt splattering his brain. Not because homies were dropping and getting shot on the reg in their hood. Not because the crime rate was at an all time high...but Cobain. A lot of you are just consumers of hip hop that went on fantasy runs in your head listening to it.
