I don't care if I offend a Northerner like @Kano

I'll give you a thorough response after work. But nonetheless blood has been shed on both sides. Tribalism did/ has/ and will continue to destroy Nigeria.

I'm not offended, I would be more offended if the next generation Of Nigerians (us) didn't make it a better place before we die and the next generation still pays for our stupid decisions.

West African intellectuals @MansaMusa and @CashmereEsquire I have an important question... Why is it that countries like Mali, Sierre Leone, Senegal, Guinea,.Burkina Faso and The Gambia DO NOT have fanatical Muslims like seen in Northern Nigeria. Sure you can say there are some in Mali but those fanatical Muslims are NOT from Mali. Mali and the countries I listed have Muslims that combine Islamic faiths with indigenous African beliefs and are not even that Islamised like N.Nigeria.

Me... I think it has to do with Northern Nigeria since history being bordered places like Chad and Niger which hosted VERY conservative Islamic Empires like Kanem. Meanwhile the Empires that were hosted in the countries I listed were more Liberal like.

Just curious.

Hausa/fulani used Islam to unite against non muslims.

Countries like senegal, salone, Gambia already had tribes who were Islamic in culture. Fulani can't team up with mende, or temne because they are already muslim and identify with tribe before religion.

Not sure honestly. I think like you said it probably has to deal with the historic manner those individuals were converted to Islam. Like I don't think Mande groups took on Islam manner in the same way as those in the Nigeria area. I could be totally wrong though but didnt Islam spread to the Nigeria/Benin/etc areas via conquest while in the Sahel it was a combination of Trade?
Yep, but I think the Hausa's were Muslim before the Fulani Jihads. But I think they were conquered by the Kanem Empire or it was mostly in the Eastern Sahalian Islamic sphere of influence i.e Niger, Chad and Libya. This was not the case for Senegal, Mali or Sierre Leone who are Sufi like @TZiggy mentioned.

But not only that but Mande ethnic groups like the Mandinka hated the Fulani. They were like the Bloods and Crips. NOTICE the Sokoto Caliphate did not play no games when it came to Mandinka areas. They didn't wanna get conquered again... Thats one reason they did not team up.

BIAFRA MUST GAIN ITS INDEPENDENCE FROM NIGERIA.

WHAT DO WE EVEN HAVE IN COMMON WITH THE HAUSA?? WITH THE YORUBA???

IGBO, HAUSA, YORUBA ARE NOT TRIBES, WE ARE NATIONS!!!!

THE COUNTRY OF NIGERIA MAKES 0 SENSE. ITS AN AMALGAMATION OF PEOPLE WITH NOTHING IN COMMON BEING RULED BY THOSE WHO DESPISE EACH OTHER

WE MUST BE RECOGNIZED AS OUR OWN NATION.

YOU THINK YOUR HOMES IN THE NORTH ARE SAFE? YOU THINK YOUR LAND IS TRULY YOUR LAND?
YOU OWN NOTHING IN NIGERIA IF YOU ARE IGBO
THEY SLAUGHTERED US BEFORE, THEY WILL DO IT AGAIN

AND THE WORST FUKKING PART ABOUT IT IS THE WORLD STAGE WILL ALWAYS BE AGAINST SECESSION, AND ALWAYS PRO UNIFICATION, EVEN IF THAT UNIFICATION MEANS KEEPING A COUNTRY TOGETHER THAT HAS NO REASON TO BE TOGETHER.

I CAN GO MORE IN DEPTH BUT THIS MUST HAPPEN.

That's riiiiiight!

Igbo Land must manifest destiny

One factor may be the fact that Muslims in those countries don't feel the need to engage in political battles with Christians. Their leaders may feel that they may have to prove their worth to their Islamic constiuencies by courting radicals and doing things like political sharia.

Perhaps, Nigeria's political elites are uniquely evil?

But the most important factor is the legacy of Usman dan Fodio and his son, Muhammad Bello.

To me it seems Fulanis may be the TRUE enemies of non-Muslim Nigerians.

Was she beheaded by fanatics or the Hausa elite and their lackeys?

You do realize that most of these extremists regard the northern elites as "kuffaar", right? Buhari is a non-Muslim to them.

Breh, you're a knowledgeable dude so I'm sure you know things are a bit more complicated than "northerners want to impose Sharia on us and destroy our way of life". You can't just reduce things to the level of Muslims vs. Christians.

Where do the pro-government Yoruba fit into this grand conspiracy? :comeon:

She was beheaded by average Hausa people in a public market. They became upset when a rumour went around that a 60 year old woman had blasphemed against Muhammad. She did not.

The extremists in the market that day probably worship the Hausa-Fulani elite. Whether they be emirs or politicians like Buhari.

re: Muslims v Christians
Unfortunately, in Nigeria - it is often as simple as that.

The Yoruba formed a political alliance with the North. It is not working because the North wants to retain power if Buhari dies in office or can't complete another term. That's why the Arewa (Northern) Youth Group just issued a statement saying this against Yorubas:
Your plan to make Osinbajo president will fail - Arewa youths blast Yoruba leaders

Those countries are more influenced by Sufi Islam and culture of tolerance rather than the Saudi version practiced in Northern Nigeria.

Adding on to this, Usman dan Fodio was a Wahabbist. He upturned traditional Islamic schools of thought and sects in the North in the early 19th century. Finally, Saudi Arabia has been building many schools in Northern Nigeria and supporting various preachers.

It was trade, then conquest in the 19th century.

It is too late. Nigeria is finished. The last chance to fix Nigeria (Restructuring) has been rejected by the APC.

Increasingly, Nigerians are turning towards hatred of one another (see Arewa Youths ultimatum to Igbos or Fayose's threat to expel Fulanis). Not even speaking of terrorism in the Lake Chad Region, militancy in the Niger Delta or political agitation in Igboland for Biafra.
