This showed up on my YouTube feed, don't shoot the messenger.

Those kinds of conclusions are the laziest, and least thoughtful. We have a whole country full of musical hotbeds and somehow the video decides to blame Atlanta.

Big Labels stepped on R&b, rock, and rap like cocaine distributors stepped on cocaine, to stretch an already increasingly diluted product. smaller labels looked the other way and followed suit, to make money too.

What plays in an Atlanta titty bar doesn’t stop others from making quality music. The artists and musicians who never stopped catering to their own niche are still eating.

I pray for the future of black America.

The love, fun ,soul and respect has been completely taken out of the music we consume.

Those of you with young daughters better HOPE she can luck up and find a young gentleman that grew up having an appreciation for old school R&B and vice versa if you have a son looking for a good woman.

The surface level minded person says "music is just entertainment" but the elites who control the media and the world itself totally disagrees:

Music itself has the ability to instill certain values inside of people.

Show me the young man who grew up listening to soul and love filled R&B and I'll show you a young man that I more than likely wouldn't mind dating my daughter or sister....compared to the young man who grew up listening strictly to trap & drill and thinks R&B is some "simp shyt".

There’s good R&B music that I like. SZA,Arin Ray, Tone Stith,Giveon,Ari , Lucky, Fridayy all are dropping good music.

The problem with these threads are posters generally only list 90’s-00’s as a comparison. That lets me know you only prefer one type of R&B. Are you a fan of the genre or just a specific sound?

I’m a fan of the genre and all the genre’s that encompass it. Like many others my parents saturated us with the blues, funk, and soul all the way from the 60’s. All those things are what make R&b.

The bigger problem is most of the artists you listed are black pop artists wearing a fake “R&b” label. execs, journalists, etc have been trying for decades to force black pop artists into the R&b label which is basically what they call consider most, if not all, music made by black singers.

The writing is low effort, the concepts are low effort, the talent can be lacking (and then covered with a veneer of autotune and other effects). I listen to or have listened to multiple projects by everyone you listed, most of that shyt feels like musical paper maché.

"it's what our parents used to say about our era" is a terrible counter argument.

Maybe they, too, were right? It only proves that we're on a downward trajectory in terms of artistic expression culminating in the current crop of "artists".
Our kids saying the same thing too and this their era. These kids stay listening to 90s and 80s my niece in high school

You could down a whole lot of factors frfr..But I think the most obvious it became over influenced by hip hop and that started when they combined the hip hop and rnb charts…Overtime whatever balance existed progressively got lost early 90s on…
