Helps keep the head clear, it helps live my life better. The whole discipline aspect of it, as soon as I get done in the gym my whole day is just positive vibes and I can handle anything life throws at me on that day.

It keeps me away from alcohol, which I didn't really abuse, but it's just not good. Don't see much point in drinking really, but it's when I'm actively working out that I really don't want to drink.

I worry a lot less about my health. I was the opposite of fat when I didn't work out, but now I'm thicker and planning on getting even bigger.

I smoked for 4 years too, so this past year and change without smoking. Yo, I'm proud of myself for real every time I think about how my life changed! :russ:

@1-8-7-Skillz congrats on quitting the smokes and hitting the gym consistently breh. Dap + Rep. :salute:

Last but not Least: Maybe it's wrong or whatever, but working out makes me feel like a legit black man every time I do it. It's like I'm 10 nikkas in one every time I'm done with a work out.

Y'all know what I mean?

Another thing that I really want to point out is the fact that the gym gives your life a certain structure. No matter where I am, if im in college, or at home during the holidays or travelling in another country I always have the gym to workout. Its also great to decrease stress, I can be pretty choleric sometimes but the gym always is like a spiritual stress reliever for me and makes it way easier to stay calm in situation I would usually snap.

The gym provides structure for my day. No matter what I know I need to get in there and do my thing. It helps me destress from my days when I go late and it helps give me energy to start my day when I go early. This structure keeps me discipline because no matter what's going on with me or outside I'm going.

Also investing in my body. It's dope not letting time just past you by but instead using everyday to develop and change your body. Psychologically i think that's very important

It puts me in a good mood. I get grumpy if I dont go, or just get really diappointed in myself. Its therapeutic to me at this point.

the gym changed my life. started going daily in 2010 after an emergency surgery and just got into a routine and enjoyed the process. wasnt weighing myself or keeping track of shyt. just tried to have a harder workout and eat better than i did the day before, every day. as the calluses on my hands from the bar got bigger so did my muscles. a year later i weighed in and realized i had totally recomped, lost 65 lbs and got down to like 178 then put on about 15 lbs of muscle in those next 6 months.

right now, 7 years later, im still going 5 days a week. i hit walls sometimes and have to change things up. i cant lift as heavy due to some injuries. but im still there. its my favorite time of day. listen to music or podcasts, get my endorphins going, look at girls. i come up with some of my best ideas in the gym too while working out :russ:

i recently started hitting the park in addition to the gym too. jump rope and bang out dips, chin ups, pull ups and push ups. i do that 2-3 a week and ever since i started i feel even lighter and stronger. it synergises with my gym lifts.

I was :flabbynsick: in my early 20. now im in my early 30s and while everyone around me my age is getting :flabbynsick: dad bodies and are under the thumb of their 9-5, i feel like im just getting better every day

I've been going to my gym for about 6 years and befriended a shyt ton of people that go through routinely too. Two of my best buddies were made there(they're into powerlifting and competitions, so working out with them is real good) and I can stay there for 2-3 hours just grinding and it's always a blast. One of the best parts of life. honestly I worry about injury not because of the loss of gains as I know I could get them back, but there would be a huge void in my life if I couldn't go to the gym every day. :mjcry:

Also I don't really got time for sports anymore, so the gym is great for keeping fit/active.

Question for all those going to the gym regularly who did not have workout friends at the start: where did you get the knowledge to train,
how to do excercises properly and also about proper nutrition?

Asking because I have been working on gaining weight (basically more calories in than I burn) for a few months and have been doing push-ups daily at home, as well as doing kettlebell workouts at home. I have gained 13.5 pounds since June, which for me is great and really motivating.

I now want to take it to the next level and go to the gym, but not knowing what I’d have to do to get the results I want and this idea of everybody else knowing perfectly what to do is a bit intimidating.

How did and do you all handle this? Do you guys ask help from a Personal Trainer at the gym?

Dope thread OP and props to all of y’all for going to the gym!
