Before the hipsters, Guliani's clean up, 9/11, etc

I hear all these stories about the old New York, so what was it like?

My mom use to live there during the seventies.

She said it definitely lived up to its title of being "The city that never sleeps".

Idk if it change more than other cities. I think during these times in the technology period more cities just got exposure, and showed that New York is really not all that better than other major cities.

There was a dope thread on the other site about what the vibe was like in NYC in the 90's. Good stories in there.

I'm an outsider but I remember Brooklyn, Queens and Bronx as a kid being dirty....garbage and graffiti tags everywhere. Now its clean as fuk.......I was in Queens in August and I was surprised at how clean Jamaica Ave was.....almost as clean as Toronto....but you still got some old ass buildings that I see while driving in on the George Washington from New Jersey.

But seriously it must have dope in the 90s, especially the mid 90s

Bumping Illmatic or IWW in a CD player while walking though the 90s New York :ahh:

*Remember looking up at the WTC towers pre 9/11* :to:

Beat Street in Fulton Mall :obama:

Other than the WTC, Crime rate drop and gentrification, it wasn't too different than today from what I noticed.

I stayed in ny heavy in the 00's not the 90's/80's etc so I missed "it". Would have loved to have been in times square back in the 80's, I heard shyt was wayyyyyy different. The way people describe ny in the 80's/70's like it was 2 detroits put together but looking at old pictures nyc looked like some kinda apocalyptic city.
