here's what depresses me.... if you took a republican voter and showed them the republican party and the democratic party side by side they'd think the republicans were the party of righteousness and democrats the party of devil worshipers....
but if you took a democratic voter and showed them the exact same two parties they wouldn't be able to tell them apart from each other....
like there were literally democrats who saw hillary and trump as identical twins.... no republican saw it that way.... trump was and is their lord and savior.... hillary was to them the wicked witch of the north...
it's crazy... beyond insane... democrats can't get votes from republican voters (think kamala running around with liz cheney) because republicans see them as the most heinous demonic creatures ever... and democrats can't get votes from democratic voters (think all the dem voters who chose the couch) either because they see democrats as republicans as well...
just a lose/lose situation for democrats.... if only democratic politicians could differentiate themselves from republican politicians without being smeared as going too far left.....
I think that democrats are trying to appeal to people by saying "we won't make things worse"
That isn't a compelling message. There are too many democrats in office who benefit from private equity firms(they have funds managed by them) to propose something like a ban on PEFs owning family houses.
They have too many houses themselves to propose a ban saying that no individual is allowed to own more than 3 residences.
They have mutual funds and ETFs which have holdings that include fossil fuel, military, and tech stocks to redirect fossil fuel subsidies into green energy firms and responsibly run tech firms. They personally benefit from Boeing doing well financially so they won't vote against more military spending.
There are too many Carter era democrats around that believe that the thing that worked only ONCE(trying to appeal to Republicans--when Clinton won) would work again. Obama crushed John McCain and mitt Romney by successfully painting them as out of touch millionaires. I still remember when John McCain couldn't answer the question of how many homes he owned. During a financial crisis when people were LOSING their homes, that was one of the worst possible things he could have done. Democrats got at him for that, and kept emphasizing how rich he was. When Obama ran against Romney, he emphasized how the guy likes firing people and how if he was in charge he wouldn't have done shyt like cash for clunkers or signed off on stimulus checks. He ethered his whole campaign by emphasizing how he's so much like the rich a$$hole that laid everyone off at the company.
It worked for him. The thing that a Democrat could do that would help him win credibility not only with the base, but working voters is to make a public show of divesting from companies that are making people's lives worse, and immediately cutting off the rich people he's been hanging out with. It takes courage to sacrifice personal gain for the public good, and so far the people with the most power in the democrat party are FAR too comfortable to do that and to support the kind of policies that will get people working 2 or 3 jobs, unemployed, or terrified because they're retirement age and are terrified of not being able to afford their mortgage because of changing prices and interest rates.
Democrats need to speak to the economic realities of most of the population by offering dramatic change. It's what got Obama into the white house and it's what helped democrats secure the black vote. Republicans had black people voting for them in the past because of Lincoln and other Republicans that actually did things for us. But then the switch started when FDR won and was making sweeping changes that black people still benefited from.
He was about to do a second bill of rights even.
But dummies here will tell you that AOC or Bernie are communists and radicals. Tell me you can't hear that shyt and think "damn that sounds good".
He said that shyt in an era with less rights for everyone who wasn't white. If they could pull off shyt like the new deal in an era where black people were literally being murdered and it was a public event with people going there with their kids to watch for fun, why can't they do that now? It's greed. Too many democrats don't want to make drastic change because they're beneficiaries of things being the way they are. People aren't satisfied with half measures, they want serious change and the millionaires in the party have to be willing to take the financial Ls for the greater good. Get the base motivated by offering to punish their enemies(billionaires) and help their families(tax cuts, entitlements, raised minimum wage) people are angry. Don't tell them to calm down, tell them who is making their lives worse and offer to make those people pay. Republicans are very good at taking that anger and telling them not to direct it at the guy who owns 6 houses, but instead at the guy who sweeps the floors in the office whose English isn't so good. Or to direct it at the black college student that studied his ass off to get into a decent school. Or to direct it at the guy who recently got fired and became homeless.
