There was 300+ episodes and tons of Direct-To-DVD movies that occurred right before SGU dropped. Figure with that much saturation, fans needed a mental break from SG. Same thing happened with Caprica, many nBSG fans just got off the emotional high with the series finale, and now the creators wanted to tell a story about something we already know is going to happen to Colonial civilization...
If there were a 2-3 year gap after their respective finales, then SGU and Caprica would probably be on today...Execs ain't trying to hear that at all..
