I recently watched the entire series again over the course of about 5 months.
It's ridiculous the technological leap they made between the first season and the last.
I can't imagine watching Universe and not being lost as fukk.

:heh: right???

I can't believe no one has mention BSG the new version.

Easily one of the best SCI FI series on netflix, and there are a decent amount of episodes to watch too.
Kiss a month goodbye if you get hooked.

:dwillhuh: I'm not sure how this isn't the #1 recommended show in this thread?

Because even though BSG is a great show, it did drop off for a lil bit...:francis: and the ending for all things considered could have been better.
they still never answered the question of who or what brought starbuck back...

It's def worth making to the end. It gets complicated but I had bought in, so I took the ride all the way.
There's good stuff in seasons 3 and 4.

Even watched most of Caprica, but never finished.

but about the spoiler. I feel you, but I just let it go eventually lol

Star Trek DS9 is one of my all time favorites. Finished it late last year, and I still miss it, so I started looking up alternatives and saw some say they feel a show called Babylon 5 is just as good or better, so I'm on that now. I was forewarned that season 1 is bad, but im enjoying it for what it is so far. I guess hearing it supposedly gets epic season 2 onwards keeps me engaged. It reminds me a lot of DS9: they're living in a ship, lots of shades of grey, etc. Both have a hard ass woman as second in command, alien politics, Londo and G'kar remind me of Quark and Odo too lol.

What else is there? What's better between the stargate stuff and the battlestar gallactica stuff? I saw there was like 3 different star gate series :damn:

I also vaugely remember a show called andromeda. I'm more into the long story arc with strong character development rather than the episodic format of the older star treks. I'm cool with how DS9 did it where it's a blend of both, but it was definitely at its best during the dominion wars where there was less filler.
I have watched it through several times lol now that it is on Netflix wish we could get a movie.

I always liked Star Trek Yoyager, its my favorite sci fi series all of time :blessed:

First show I ever checked for weekly as a kid, I'll never forget watching the series finale live :mjcry:

It has most of those things mentioned the OP, I'm currently re watching Yoyager and I'm enjoying as much as I did as a kid, and it has the GOAT star trek villain, The Borg.

Also some DS9 characters make a cameo in the plot of Yoyager
when that fortune cookie head breh tries to finesse Harry Kim from Yoyager on DS9 its kinda funny :pachaha:
Voyager wasnt bad but Tng Ds9 and the original series movies are ahead of it imo.

Ds9 although I love B5 too its just im a trek fan first.

I'm already drawing certain parallels in my head

G'kar reminds me of Garak

Sinclair reminds me of Sisko

Ivanova reminds me of Kira

Girabaldi reminds me of O'Brien

Londo reminds me of Quark

Dellen reminds me of Dax a little in that they are mild mannered by wise and dangerous.

I don't really see a Odo or Bashir equivalent, but the familiarity is what's getting me through a relatively weak first season. I'm now on an episode of importance according to @BaldingSoHard where Sinclair is kidnapped and forced to revisit what really happened during the war. Good episode.

Yeah this was a topic of heavy convo in the 90s the B5 creator claimed that they where stealing from them he even said he pitched b5 to paramount they turned him down and the next thing he knows they are announcing this new show about a space station far from federation space.

Probably why there's clear similarities. It almost feels like a DS9 remix. The song structure is different but the main beat and hook are still recognizable lol.

Sky Full of Stars :blessed:

G'kar reminds me of Garak
Right now, G'Kar is militant as fukk whereas Garak was always sort of the friend you don't really trust till later. Actually, in that way, they're very similar. Garak was a great great character but G'Kar becomes a legend.

Sinclair reminds me of Sisko
Season 1 Sinclair is asscheeks. Without spoiling anything, he becomes MUCH MUCH cooler in Season 3. No, you don't actually have to sit through two more years of him to get there. I know it doesn't make sense; it will.

Ivanova reminds me of Kira
Yea, they were both kinda throwaway characters for me. But then, only Riker and Spock have ever really been useful 1st officers, imo.

Girabaldi reminds me of O'Brien
I can see that. Sort of an "everyman".

Londo reminds me of Quark
Londo is a much more tragic and pivotal character than he originally appears. In fact, without spoiling anything, the entire series is basically about Londo.

Dellen reminds me of Dax a little in that they are mild mannered by wise and dangerous.
Ah man, Delenn.... She becomes SO badass by the time all is said and done. I hated Dax, tho.

Lemme know when you get to Signs and Portents; that's by far the most important episode of the season until the finale.

It sad how so much of the cast from b5 has passed away. Has anyone ever checked out the lost tales came out about six or seven years ago.

Seems like almost all the Black actors who were on the show have died...

The guy who played Walker Smith in TKO.
Dr. Franklin of course.
The guy who played his father...

Then there's Sinclair and G'kar too.

Sad day.

Anyway, on The Lost Tales... I tried breh, but JMS had lost his way by then. Or maybe I had just grown tired of his overdramatic style.

I have the DVD and was utterly disappointed of the script (though as I understood it, JMS had a small budget to work with), so I get the constraints. Definite drop off in quality and felt like filler episodes of season 5. Fans wanted to see the Telepath Wars, Lennier's Fate, etc.

Paul Winfield played Franklin's Dad and had many sci-fi and dramatic roles in his career
Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar) played Tomalak from TNG
Michael O'Hare (Sinclair) died from a Heart Attack and suffered from Schizophrenia
Jeff Conway (Zack Allan) died from pneumonia (he had serious drug addiction for much of his life)

Agreed, JMS should have hung it up, or battled for another made-for-tv movie....

Top notch shows?
Babylon 5
NuBattlestar Galactica
Space: Above And Beyond
Farscape
Sliders (First 3 seasons)
Lexx

Space: Above And Beyond was the blueprint for NuBattlestar Galactica in terms of grittiness and military feel, so it is a short run of two seasons, but a great show. Unfortunately it was cut short due to Fox's meddling and rotating time slots (you know Fox does shows).

As for DS9, the show has aged well and was overshadowed by TNG/VOY during its run and thought of as "boring" because it didn't have the serialized style that its counterparts had. What it did have was a conclusive story-arc from start to finish which was great to watch considering the material and universe that it took place in.
