I understand that this is a pro-WWE board, but come on.

This nearly put the company out of business.

LOL, No it didn't. Ratings, PPV buyrates, house show attendance and revenues were all UP from the previous year. Late '97/early '98 was when they were really beginning to turn it around and build momentum which eventually lead to them beating WCW in the ratings in the spring of '98 for the first time since early '96. Shawn's reign wasn't even close to putting the WWF out of business, LOL. And SMH @ 4 people dapping your post too.

It was '95/'96 when things were really bad for them. (You could actually throw '94 in there as well)

This is how you know you didn't watch in the 90s. House show numbers DOUBLED and ratings were up during HBKs 96-97 title run. It's amazing people still say this shyt when there's actual numbers out there as facts.

It was Bret and Diesels run from 94-96 that had horrible numbers

Exactly it's a huge myth that Shawn couldn't draw and everyone goes with it yet the numbers don't lie HBK was probably the best draw in the mid 90s for the WWF.

People who watched in the 90s most likely were kids/teens, and didn't give af about attendance, and analyzing the numbers now, when its all over the net and we are old enough to comprehend them, as well as have access to all the footage and see the receptions these dudes were getting, is a better vantage point.

Your point stands though, if the numbers were down when HBK was on top, it was not because of him, but his surrounding cast.

The post he quoted mentioned HBK's 97-98 run (Montreal to WM14) which makes his post even worse.

Had he been talking about Shawn's '96 reign (maybe he was and got confused) he would still be wrong (as you pointed out). They were never in danger of going out of business during his title reign.

Lol @ me not being around in the 90s. You attitude era babies are hillarious. This is barely even part of the 90s anyway, on some tail-end chit.

The WWF started turning the corner with the rise of Steve Austin. Then when they put him with Mike tyson during tyson's mot Infamous time period, it was the closest thing to Hogan/piper/Mr T.

Shawn just-so-happened to have the belt. HBK was never a draw. I remember people used to leave before his main events. I was really there. I don't need Google statistics.

Supporting cast?? The WWF improved their roster by the time they put the belt on HBK.

it was the best roster they had since '92.

I don't know why yall insist on grouping '96 in with '94-95, just to make HBK look skrong.

You are clueless to the actual product then, go back and watch some 96 as your recollections from being there live are highly skewed.

The storylines and gimmicks were big dogshyt around this time, it's not on Bret, HBK, or Diesel. Sure in 96, they had the guys who would eventually push them over the top out of the dark days, but they were just getting started then..

Michaels routinely had the best matches in 96, outside of Bret/Austin Survivor Series, Taker/Mankind submission match, maybe a couple more.. It was him, Bret when he was active, and some Taker.. There is no way you can tell me any of the top 3 performers were THAT bad, that they were the ones responsible for WWF being down in 96, versus WWF just being trash as a whole still.

Shawn Michaels was not a draw in 96. The reason why Austin is who he is today is because Shawn Michaels bombed and bombed huge. WWF got eradicated by Sting and the nwo until Austin was given the belt at WM 14 under the Tyson hype umbrella that went mainstream.

No I'm saying in 96, they had guys who were easy money stars in real-time. I'm not even talking about Austin, rock, or triple h. They weren't even on my mind, although Austin was a notable signing but they stuck him with a chitty gimmick at first.
again I WAS THERE. Yall just googling numbers.

And I'm not putting the entire blame on anybody. Yall just want it one way. Yall trying to make HBK exempt from the blame when the numbers are down but want to give him the credit when the numbers go up.

And HBK/Bret/taker is a weak ass big 3. They're all 2nd-tier main eventers at best.
