It won't make sense until the 4th movie is released (and maybe not even then)......like the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey. I saw it about 6 months ago and had this face at the end.......

14 years after Shinji's 3rd Impact, Gendo is trying to continue the Dead Sea Scrolls Contract to wipe out life (Those of the Tree of Knowledge, us Humans) and replace life with those of the Tree of Life, angels. To somehow be with Yui again, maybe she's an angelic life form now?

Stuff happens, and...... what IS happening? Idk, their going to try to meet up with Misato.

Oh for sure but they were having a lot of studio problems midway which is why a full year had passed between episode 4 and 5. I think the first episode debut in 2007 and it just ended this year with a total of 10 episodes.
