Great episode.

Pretty interesting contrast with how Shinsuke & Tama are handling seeing Shakuyaku being a pawn of the enemy. Honestly, not surprised Tama freaked out like she did. Tama is one tough cookie, but I don't think she has it in her to fight her friends. Meanwhile, for Shinsuke instead of falling into despair like in part 1, but has the resolve to calmly push forward. I got a feeling that once they get there it will be Shinsuke & Tsukiko against Shakuyaku.

But man, this episode really shows that while the Void People have things they may want to protect, but they are scum. As antagonists, I do like how they bait out Senya, but man Senya is beyond triggered. I am actually curious why Nadere sought out Douren when Senya was right in front of him. Also, the bonk from him could imply that Jinun is partially in control maybe?

The Jinun Douren fight should be a good one. Furthermore, the much that was similar to the one that Resshin was using in part 1 was found. This fukker is going to use that to stir shyt, isn't he?

So I finished watching Beastars S1. It was pretty solid. There are some things I thought were great and things not so much. One of the foundations of the show is the dynamic between carnivores and herbivores. The former hunts and eats the latter. The way it used this dynamic throughout most of season 1 was good. Like how to maintain peace you can arise to herbivores bullying the carnivores which seems odd.

In a way, through most of Season 1 we see that Legoshi is always following Haru around. This is mostly coming from Haru being his prey, which follows the carnivores and herbivores dynamic. Even an interesting dynamic Haru was willing to be eaten by Legoshi instinctually was an interesting parallel like how Legoshi wants to go after his prey.

IMO, the most interesting character in the show was the deer Louis. We learn of his backstory of being literal food for carnivores. He wishes to be the Beastar to united carnivores and herbivores. Him dealing with the followup of Legoshi rescuing Haru was a nice surprise. I am curious what he plans to do since he disappeared from school.

One of the biggest issues is how much time is spent on Legoshi & Haru and not much has changed. Legoshi doesn't recognize his kohai wolf Juno's feelings like a typical dense Mc in a RomCom. He keeps going after Haru even when it is clear a relationship between these two will never happen. As Gouhin put it, Legoshi's instincts are confusing his feelings of Haru as his prey with love. Given that an animal instincts are built in, it only feels inevitable until Legoshi realizes the truth that Gouhin mentions.

God damn this episode was great. So @twan83 this episode covered the big twist that essentially that Freya = Syr, but also Horn = Syr.

Great episode. I will admit the beginning with Syr & Bell in the bedroom did annoy me in many aspects. Although the eyes that Syr uses reminds me of what Freya used in S2, which she used to infatuate the guys with the Ishtar family. So that was a clear sign that Syr is Freya.

I also loved the talk Welf get Bell. He likes Bell as a straight shooter aka someone who is open. A guy who doesn't give a girl an answer right after he confesses is not taking that girls' feelings seriously. This is a talk that Bell needed especially right now. Bell has had his harem for a while, but nobody has been aggressive like this pursuing him.

The Horn twist when Bell realizes was executed very well. Since Hestia, herself didn't know what Syr was. It was currently that this Syr was Horn, not Freya. Essentially, the game between Horn vs Freya it was really about would Freya win his heart first or would Horn kill Bell. It is safe to assume that the Syr that was with Bell for most of the time on the date was Freya. Now I am not sure how they ended up switching.

Essentially, Syr wanted to be as beautiful as Freya. To become that, she forsakes her name and Freya made her the daughter of the Gods. One could think of it as her adoptive daughter. Freya fell for Bell all of this time. I wonder if this is the first time Horn was disguised as Syr or previous interactions. I do get the sense for the majority of them it has to be Freya.

Screen_Shot_2024-10-24_at_10.42.51_AM.png

The one big line that Syr mentions is that she wanted a slow burn romance. More and more Freya wanted to a slow burn romance. After all, as the Goddess Freya, she could take Bell by force whenever she wanted. However, she wanted to have a more pure romance it seems. Though after being rejected by Bell as Syr she realizes being the pure hearted maiden would never win him over. So there was no reason for Syr to exist anymore.

Despite how Horn says it to Bell that he knows everything. In reality, he doesn't. He knows at that time Horn was disguised as Syr. But he has no idea that the Syr who confessed his love to him was Freya. The even sadder part is that rejecting Syr's love essentially leads to Syr no longer existing. For Freya Syr was an avenue to express her love in a very human way. That rejection means for now her only love will come as a goddess. It feels like shyt is just starting to get down.

Ya that twist threw me off when i was reading it
I’ll watch this season once it’s done but going by what I read in comments so far they will stop at end of vol 18
Doing 5 per vol.
Since it’s at that episode now he bout to see despair worse than last season now :damn:

Well, tbh you already see it coming. Welf gave him a good talk about giving Syr an answer for her feelings. In reality, him rejecting Syr leads to Freya killing the part of her that is Syr as we see with the closing of the episode today.

Tbh 5 episodes per volume is a pretty solid number. Spice & Wolf had a similar feeling and if the directing is as good as it was this episode this season should be well done.

My god Science Saru fukking popped off this episode :wow:

You know Dandadan as a manga I never felt was a series that really hit the horror vibes when I read. Like it was present, but it was more so how Momo & Okarun are experiencing. Along with using the colors with red in this episode to represent the chase was sooooooo good. :banderas:

Then the whole chase scene was immensely elevated from the manga. Then you add the music, which, again using the anime medium to its full potential, was a fantastic addition.

Then the color shift to blue after their win was sealed was great. You see the girls who got bounded around that tunnel being released and Momo realizing was fantastic as well.

My favorite part of the episode is when Momo & Okarun say goodbye to each other at the end of the episode. Stretching out the panels making Momo reconsidering if goodbye is the right word. After all Okarun mentioned how much he wanted to be friends with Momo. The long pause, which kind of resembled Okarun's heartbeat because he was afraid that his wish to be friends with Momo was never meant to be. But the shift to when she says see you tomorrow and the smile on his face to that was perfect.

Chapters 5-7 was adapted. Along with half of 8.

The big interesting bit after TG was defeated that the local bound spirit were the girls who were violated and killed. In fact, TG sympathized with them and thus merging with them, which was mentioned a few episodes ago. A big rule being the dead and living need to respect each other. Okarun went into TG's territory, but even after cursing Okarun TG was planning to go after Seiko and others. Those rules are how the living and dead coexist.

I absolutely adored the shift from Momo saying goodbye to see you tomorrow. For her those words are the same, but for Okarun the latter gives him affirmation that Momo considers Okarun her friend.

I saw the re-release @ AMC last month. It had an updated interview with Yoshiaki Kawajiri. I'm disappointed this Blu Ray does not include the interview

The pacing did feel a bit jarring in this episode. Hopefully, this type of storytelling is the exception and not the norm. The first big reveal that Alma belonged to Jun's company of Kagami. You get the added thing where his father is loved. If his father truly this kind figure that they people love or was it after his reign that things changed. Also, is he alive and still running Kagami?

Screen_Shot_2024-10-24_at_5.31.51_PM.png

This story is taking this mechanical arms as they have their own life like humans. So Kerex is dead. I am curious about how Tani proceeds since losing his Mechanical Arm should be deadly. So Alma and the others were searching for Ordela the father of the Mecha-Ude. The real issue is having to seal Ordela again, which Alma doesn't remember. What happened to Yakumo during this time?

Poor Aki. As we see that the worm type of Mecha-Ude can indeed take control of humans against their will similarly how we saw the Kagami group do the same to Mecha-Ude. In an ironic twist, to save Aki's sister they might need to enslave the worm that is controlling her. The next episode will be a heartbreaker for Aki because the bubbly sister looks dead whenever her face is seen so far.

Damn great episode to show Shishio's introduction and how ruthless he is and a great fight at the end.

An interesting thing that I did not see coming was that Eiji's brother was working with Saito. Unlike Saito though he has a big heart because he couldn't stand the suffering at the hands of Shishio & Senkaku. But it is that heart and not being cautious that cost him his life. The villagers' fear of Shishio is real because the government and cops, in their eyes, abandoned them. In their POV of view, bowing to Shishio & Senkaku is the only choice they have. They will value their lives over their dignity, as Saito said.

Screen_Shot_2024-10-24_at_6.16.15_PM.png

Screen_Shot_2024-10-24_at_6.18.55_PM.png

Saito also provides the flip side why the government isn't getting involved. Getting involved in this conflict would imply risking their lives. Politicians in the past and present mainly will look after themselves first. A significant risk to their life is something they can't do. At this point, the only real plan is to go after Shishio which is what Saito has planned.

Saito laid it out basically that Shishio wants revenge against the Meiji Government. I am not too informed with Japanese history, but what I got out of it was that he aims for world supremacy. Well, at least Japan for now. Kind of interesting he says you are not a man unless you seek that out and Kenshin is the polar opposite. It holds some truth that Saito is similar in personality as he is that ruthless, but he seems a principled man.

Of course, for what Senkaku did to Eiji's family, Kenshin wants to get his revenge on Eiji. Of course, more so in victory than blood. However, Kenshin knows that Shishio is meanly using him to learn more about Kenshin as he knows he doesn't stand a chance. The plan is simple use his speed to bait Senkaku to keep going faster until his load becomes his undoing. Of course, Shishio's threat of killing Senkaku prompting Kenshin to give Shishio a bone so that Senkaku doesn't die from Shishio. It is very in character of Kenshin throughout the series.

Also, I really like how Misao empathizes with Eiji given if a similar situation happened to Aoi and the others. Though it is funny how Eiji is treating her like how she treated like Kenshin. I do want to see him and Yahiko meeting up.

Also, deadass at Saito remembers the girls based on their faces and which animal it resembles :deadrose:
