I see it like this:

What happens if I remove the main protagonist and their group? Will the world stagnate, or will fukkery and piff still pop off?

If you can answer yes, then the author/writer did a good job of building their world and the story so that its interesting outside of the protagonists main group.

Its why at a baseline, even though I may not like what they've turned into, shyt like Naruto is at least respectable.

Toriyama is trying to do it now with Super, but he started this shyt way too late with the multiverse and shyt actually happening outside of Goku's scope.
I agree with you on that, and for me thats what is so interesting about most shounen, in a vaccum the ingredients to make a top notch one seems so simple yet so many dont do it effectively

Just to start off:

1)Making the world/journey around the MC's interesting (personally the elrich brothers are ehh for the most part for me personally)
2)A large cast of interesting character who are vastly involved in the outcomes of the story/battles

OG Naruto is interesting to me because they were able to capture some of that, and the pieces around Naruto/Sasuke were more interesting than them

As I go through it & had a convo w/ my boy, I was wondering has a shounen ever had an ensemble of characters we are invested in, that all play a major role in the story AND overlap each other from start to finish.

Off the top of my head
Yu Yu
Kenshin
HXH 2011
DBZ (early on)

Watching this climax, there are about 20-25 interesting characters, they all are broken up into groups, and it has a Star Wars feel of there 7 different battles going on at the same time. Everything is intertwined

When they all assemble on the Promised Day :mjcry:, the first watch was so so incredible. I watched the series at least 5 times :yeshrug: every time Finals rolled around in college it was time to run it back

It had everything: action, adventure, mystery, fantasy elements, world building, a really really great ensemble cast of characters, mature relationships between characters, a strong core story to build on and fall back to

I find it funny the show basically mocks Religion as of episode 3

But Investment in the story, they did it to perfection. The "Promised Day" hype was real & legit happiness was gained during key moments in battle. Thats all you can ask from the chimera officers to Yoki, I really enjoyed all of them

Did the same last year with the fam, shyt is excellent. :wow:

Brotherhood is 1 of the GOATs :wow: always holds up and never loses the magic

If you haven’t seen/finished it can we really take your opinion on anime serious
