Finished Penguindrum. I think it would have hit me harder if I weren't an only child, because behind all the vague allegorical symbolism is a story about sibling love triumphing over unfair circumstances set against children who can't choose who their parents are. And there's a lot more to that that would be a huge spoiler. I couldn't make a connection with a lot of those symbols as always with Ikuhara. But the child broiler for kids who are neglected by their parents is probably the most important one, and it's pretty transparent as to what it's supposed to mean. I want to rewatch this later this year with the knowledge of what winds up happening. Feel like I'll be able to appreciate it more.

I have zero idea what relevance Penguins even had in this show. But they were great comedic relief. The one that kept spraying roaches was the best.

About to watch Lupin III. Caught some of it on adult swim but was too young to really understand anything about it. other than the main guy being a pervert i guess

yeah. It's why my last post regarding ep 18 was what it was.

It wasn't even me following clues that made me realize exactly what was going on.

It was me realizing I knew exactly how they felt and why (even sanetoshi), but I didn't have the stuff you say (rightfully so) is a huge spoiler to balance it out.

Me: :dwillhuh:........ oh. :mjcry:

So yeah, when it hit me, it hit me pretty hard.

The penguins/rabbits, in my opinion (I could be utterly wrong. Its Ikuhara)

The Sanetoshi we see is actually the other half of the split-in-two Momoka, which wish why we see him chilling in The Library (Momoka's diary)

The Split in two Sanetoshi really is those two rabbits

Momoka/Sanetoshi sent the penguins to the siblings so they wouldn't be alone during the extremely rough times because of their fates. It's why we don't see them "lead" the siblings anywhere. they just bumble about, doing what the siblings actually see themselves doing.

Masako has a penguin simply because she's a twin; the "Other Kanba"

Nobody else has penguins or rabbits because they didn't eat the "Fruit of Fate", which appeared almost randomly in front of Shoma at his lowest point, which he shared with Kanba and Himari preventing their deaths

How the fukk are there in-depth discussions going on about Penguindrum years after it came out? :mindblown:

This reminds me of Asobi Asobase blowing up right after the series ended but worse.

I'm not trying to be that guy but some of these new wave anime fans fukking suck. Since it's gone mainstream, it's like people are using watching anime as a personality trait (like white folk do with the office).
fukk em :manny: basic people do basic shyt

Only people who would be impressed by somethin as silly as that are basic too

Your Penguin theory makes sense. For a while I thought they had sinister ulterior motives because they appeared out of nowhere, never acted on their own and didn't do anything to clear up the confusion. But the fact that no one else could see them, couldn't act independently and only mirrored the behavior of their partner does suggest that they're designed to be be attached to their emotions/lifespan. I'd like to watch Penguindrum again paying more attention to what they do.

Sanetoshi being one half of the split in two Momoka and the two rabbits actually being the split in two original is way over my head. But it makes a lot more sense than what I understood before which was nothing.

I figured that Sanetoshi was a satan figure and that Momoka a christ like figure. And so maybe they created the fruit as a way to test whose theory on fate was right? should people step outside of their box to selflessly share with those in need or should they further their own goals and stay within their cages. if that's true, then it would make sense for the fruit to be entirely metaphorical for love and acceptance for children that have none (and the show is effectively saying that kids without love are malnourished, emotionally starving like the body would starve without food). So then every single person has a fruit that they can share with others and they also need such to be alive. And the character cast is just one giant web of children selflessly giving fruit to one another - Kanba got his from Shouma and Hikari, Shouma got fruit from Ringo and gave it to her as well, Hikari from Kanba and Shouma (and the idol girls?), Momoka to Yuri and Tabuki, Kanba to Masako.

but then there's a punishment when a fruit is shared because doing so changes fate, and fate cannot be changed without penalty. I guess. So that's why the Takamura's are punished for trying to change their own fate and why Shouma/Kanba make the decision they do to set things back to normal by trading lives with two others who were supposed to die.

This show gets better the more you think about it, really. Like you said it could be completely wrong but it does feel like there's a basis for this to be right based on the evidence given to you.
