Question. I have Hulu already so should I add VRV or Funimation as my stand alone anime service?

edit. Found my answer. Hulu partnered with Funimation. VRV it is.

A few things

1) Hulu doesn't have all of Funi's titles

2) most of what they do is subbed only

3) it's only a matter of time before Sony (ultimately Funi's parent) fukks everything up

VRV, from my understanding, does have HiDive now that Funi is out of the picture, but I'm not sure how good their selection is since they ceased to be ADV a decade ago

thanks for the insight breh.

any recommendations on how to find piff you’re into.. Websites and stuff like that. I get frustrated looking though titles I know nothing about. who are the denzel’s and Scorsese’s where you give them the benefit of the doubt just cuz of their body of work.

More often than not, my method of choosing comes from the animation studio behind the work. It's been a loooong time since I kept up with names. I came up on anime when names like Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Mamoru Oshii, Shji Kawamori, Shinichiro Watanabe were some of the big dawgs. I don't know a lot of the new blood. With this being the spring season, I just been checking Funimation to see what new titles they put up and judge from there.

Also, check Anime News Network

I been going there for nearly 20 years for news within the industry. They're doing a spotlight on all the new series now.

As far as the steaming services, I get most of my anime fix from FUNiNow, Hulu and (sometimes) Netflix. There's Crunchyroll too, but since I ain't paying for that shyt and I have to cast it from my phone to my TV I rarely bother with it. I haven't had a good pirate site since Masterani got shut down.

My current go to studios
Production I.G
Sunrise
Bones
Gainax :rip:
Trigger

There's a lot more but I can't think of em right now.

Yea, Hidive is Sentai's streaming outfit. They got back in good with Crunchyroll/VRV/Ellation after the latter's breakup with Funi in 2018. Basically, Sony taking over Funimation and CR being owned by a major competitor in AT&T/WarnerMedia caused them to end their joint licensing/cross platforming partnership "amicably."

I think the only way I can watch anything from Sentai right now is via Crunchyroll. I gotta check cuz I don't know what the hell they own these days.

Edit: I guess the Hidive partnership only extends to VRV, not Crunchyroll.

CR does have a few Sentai titles though:

I'm really trying to enjoy this Ultraman anime but it is sooo goddamn ugly. Looking at this shyt has me afraid for the new GITS: Stand Alone Complex series because basically the same team is working on that too (SAC's original director Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki handling direction/Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts handling animation production) and they're incorporating that ugly ass CG to the series as well. Kamiyama's a dope director but I'm sick of this nikka tryna shove this ugly ass shyt down our collective throats since 009 Re:Cyborg.

My bad yall, tryna stomach Ultraman got me in my feelings about the current state of anime.
