Essential What Anime are you currently watching?

I know Fairy Tail isn’t well liked here but after catching up on latest chapters of Black Clover, I had the urge to revisit Fairy Tail in manga form. I’m 9 vols. in and waiting for the inevitable disappointment to set but NGL, I’m loving it so far. Honestly don’t remember enjoying the anime this much.

I like FT, it was your generic shonen

I’m a few episodes in with Carole & Tuesday. It’s from Shinichirō Watanabe, the director of Cowboy Bebop. So if anything you know that the music is going to be on point. It’s about two young women, an orphan and a runaway, who connect with each other because of their love of music. It’s set in the future on Mars, but it’s very similar to now, with life and the music industry.

Ponyo was kinda unsettling. When she/it turned into a human and started aggressively stalking that kid while making derp faces I got horror film vibes

At one point she summoned a tsunami that might've drowned some people in the town off screen. Think I'd enjoy the film more if it really was about a serial killer fish.

He chills out to a large degree later but he's a lot like Naruto when it comes to the yelling throughout the series.

I'm on episode 55 or 56 I think, he's still doing it smh but the show is reminding me of Harry Potter with everyone flying around on brooms, magic wands and the different houses.

O Maidens in Your Savage Season is definitely a Mari Okada show. A bunch of melodrama and people who avoid speaking to each other so it can be dialed up even more.

the characters in Given feel genuine. It's unusual for a shounen/shoujo-ai work to give you a backstory, motivations, fears instead of forcing fanservice to pander to a target audience.

The soundtrack has been weak for a band-themed show though. Doesn't have any memorable tracks that stick with you like Rose from Nana, the Moanin' cover in Kids on the Slope, Loneliest Girl in Carole & Tuesday. Needs that to set itself apart.
