Is it really a big deal for the casual anime fan who solely watches Attack on Titan, One Punch Man, MHA, and DBZ/Naruto reruns? Is that super casual demographic aware of the manga and the quality of artwork being adapted? They might notice the difference between season 1 and season 2, but when I see some of the shyt that's popular out here I can't really imagine those people abandoning the series when it's one of a small handful they ever watch.

Maybe not. But casuals usually aren’t the ones supporting the series. One thing to watch it on Netflix and another to import discs from japan for $100+ per volume

blu ray collectors tend to be particular about what they splurge on and they will notice when there’s an obvious decline in quality. I’m sure the sales will take a big hit.

Mob Psycho >>> OPM

OPM anime was entertaining to me but in general it's imo too much of a meme series. I like the intricacies along with the development of Mob's character and his relationship with his master.

yep. i've only seen the first episode of season 2 and the animation is even more piff this season. and it gets better? :lupe:

don't get me wrong , i love opm's humor and depiction of depression/ennui. Mob has a better supporting cast (reigen > genos), and fight choreography tho

OPM s2 lookin like broiled chicken with no herbs out here

I'd agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that Netflix and other streaming services have been actively putting billions of dollars into original anime content which is going to drastically change things for production companies and actually garner them some profit.

If anything I think it means that Netflix takes over production entirely instead of leaving things up to a different party. Western companies learned this lesson from the late 90s shyt where they kept trying to pass of cartoons to whoever in order to get something out on schedule no matter what.

By the way, if you haven't seen Violet Evergarden man you should check it out too since we're talking Netflix anime

I have it queued up already, breh:mjlit:

I'm not trying to absolve JC Staff for putting out subpar promotional materials so far either:whoa:It's a testament to the detail and skill that Madhouse put into season 1. I just think we might be jumping the gun assuming the entire thing is going to be trash and that the series is over because of it.If the major set pieces are done right, I think the season can be salvaged. The animation for DB Super was trash to average a lot of times, but Toei upped the ante for the biggest moments, especially during the Tournament of Power, to the point they had stadiums full of nikkas losing their shyt:heh:

This is true for the small minority of anime that are licensed by Netflix (and it remains to be seen whether the investment will be worth it). On a grander scale it won’t affect an industry that doesn’t make much from streaming services by comparison to overpriced merchandise sales.

Personally, I’d hate to see them become a large power in the industry because it means less merchandise for bluray collectors like myself to own and doesn’t necessarily mean the anime itself will be of higher quality - Kyoto animation had done better work before Violet Evergarden and I can own all of those shows in English because the licensor is eager to profit from merchandise worldwide.

OPM is licensed by Viz Media and won’t be receiving the Netflix stimulus package so this negative criticism is going to hurt their disc sales and the people who already purchased figures during season 1 will feel less compelled to do so again for the inferior season 2.

I agree I'm a anime blu ray collector myself and Netflix will fukk that up with them licences exclusive either not release it or wait like 5 damn years than release it
Like I said earlier watch seven deadly sins season 2 take like 3 to 5 years to be out on disc :mjcry:

Frustrating.

You want to support x anime but there’s no legal release in your country. In some cases it’s not even available to be streamed legally either.

You go on cdjapan to import it but the tax is more than the cost of an average US blu ray
and who knows whether or not it’ll survive the 10000 mile trip to your house in one piece.

It’s very hard to be a collector in the West because it’s clear that we aren’t the intended audience and they don’t expect there to be a market. A missed opportunity for a lot of anime that’d sell well here. If a quality Ippo boxset with all seasons and some extras were released for $300, I’d buy it and I’m sure enough others would to justify the cost. Sangatsu Lion has a 9 rating on MAL. A good amount of people adore that show and would go broke just to own two seasons of it.
