That Psycho bytch with the tattoos from Golden Kamuy is a trap and it looks like the big Judo dude has decided to switch sides since he's interested in the trap.

Yuri v Joe was a letdown. You don't build up a fight for an entire season only to not show the end of it

They did show the end of it, the freeze frame showed Joe's punch connecting while Yuri's did not. After the credits it also shows Joe's record as 7-0.

I do think they could've done more with the fight but this was never a show about boxing itself, it was about the drive of man.

Why a freeze frame rather than animating the punch connecting. That feeds into one my biggest issues with Megalo Box - the fight animation is generally underwhelming.

If this wasn't going to be a show about boxing itself, then it can't be a true tribute to Ashyta no Joe. You can be both about the drive of a man and pay homage to the sport that allows a man to find his drive in the first place.

Now that Grancrest is finished time to marathon the second half. Come to find out the light novel ended in march so this must be a full adaptation.

Ok :leon: Original anime hopefully it will be good

Also was feeling this guy's video on the nuances of vintage anime style with the advancement of digital technology. I know it's a time/cost thing but I completely agree that the sense of 'pop' when watching pre-digital aspect is apparent and even why some of the greater older animes hold up so well with the viewing experience, drawing/painting onto real paper :wow:

Watched Fooly Cooly for the first time since my early teens and walked away more appreciative of Mamimi's character arc. Used to think she was just a horny weirdo with an addiction to cigarettes and didn't notice her dependency issues borne from a life of poverty, parental neglect, school bullying and being abandoned by literally everyone she grew close to.

Mamimi clings to people that are vulnerable and easy to manipulate and grows disinterested in them when they mature. She perfectly understands that Naota is in love with her and uses that to her advantage not so differently from Haruko who pulls him towards adulthood, while she pulls him towards a dependent childhood. One of the major themes of FLCL is that everyone has their insecurities but what matters is honesty and striving to overcome those problems, and Mamimi is the only such character who's wallowing her self pity. Her actions are entirely destructive, chain smoking and setting things she doesn't like on fire.

So when she takes that iconic photo of Naota standing on top of the rubble holding that guitar, having for the first time in the entire OVA admitted his true feelings and taken a giant leap forward to maturity, the determined look on her face suggests that she's finally resolved to being honest with herself and moving forward in life. Found a job as a photographer and left the town that stagnated her life.

I took the writing inscribed on her cigarette "never knows best" as meaning it's easier for us to say we'll never do this or never amount to that, while you really never know what can happen unless you try. Just wallowing in self pity will leave you constantly wondering the what ifs of your life, never changing, always feeling sorry for yourself and not solving anything. That the message is on a drug that contributes to poisoning your body and stunting growth is probably intentional.

There's a lot of stuff to unpack in FLCL in just six episodes. Great anime that I'll rewatch again sometime down the road. Rescored it as a 10/10. Going to watch progressive at some point.

:heh: everybody talking about 7 Deadly Sins powerscaling....

powerscale is fine. We're just used to One strong character possibly showing up and wrecking shyt once or twice a series/season, while everybody else trains to get stronger to beat increasingly strong threats.

Sins introduces the damn near strongest character first and surround him with weaker characters. Meanwhile you have no idea how strong the near strongest really is, because he toys with damn near everyone up to a certain point. Past that point there's a definite top 5 and everybody else has to get in where they fit in, and it's not uncommon to see matches where good and bad teams take out one foe.

Then you'll have one powerful character show up and bully three or 4 weaker ones while the stronger ones are KTFO/MIA.

The majority of the 10 commandments aren't that strong. it's their curses that make them dangerous.

Best scale you can judge the series by is

Escanor will wreck your shyt

Melodias
Zeldris
Estarossa

Everybody else

Demons

Humans.

I mean, sure. Melodias/Ban fights make it seem like they may be tit for tat, but in all honesty Melodias would get tired of smearing him across the landscape.
