Is And Then You Pray for Me really your last album?

This is my last solo album; I still wanna do other projects. I still want to do one with Conway [the Machine] and Benny [the Butcher] again. I still want to do a Hall & Nash with bro again. And even if I do like a “Gunnlib” or something like that, I would probably make it an EP, like six or seven songs. So I don't think I have to go in the studio and make 20 records ever again.

But the energy always takes me there, so my projects are always like 15 to 20 [songs]. But now I feel like I can just relax. Now I'm going to go back to my old formula. I might go to the studio and make five or six records today and drop it on Friday. I'm going back to them days because I don't want to hold on to nothing. And Super Flygod, he just became a thing—he's here now. He's born, so it's just a different energy with me now. I wanna dance on beats, but I don't want to wait—I just want to drop them like I used to, man. Get a picture, smack the parental [advisory] on i,t and just drop it. I started that wave, man. Now on Twitter, it can be fukking anything. They're gonna be like, “New Griselda cover.”

That's what I started. It was just like every week I was doing a brand-new song with a crazy cover. I put the parental on it, and we just made that a thing. There's so many things that I've done over the years that now it's a thing.

The issue isn't the trap beats, the issue is WSG sounds stiff as fukk rapping over them.

Fred.

It is partially the trap beats - most of them aren't good.

But a good example of why this is just a misfire is when Ross shows up on his track, and Jeezy shows up on his. All of a sudden those songs don't sound horrific.

Westside Gunn in general is not a good rapper, and his voice is very specific, and this album proves that he's only tolerable over certain types of beats.

This isn't a "gimme my boom bap" argument, it's simply saying he found a formula that made him tolerable and by trying something new he's shown that he's incredibly limited by his unique rapping voice and lack of lyrical ability.

It isn't that complex a concept to grasp, but he's an indie artist and he's his own boss, so nobody could hear that album before it dropped and tell him it wasn't a good idea like an A&R or a label team would.

Okay so I finally played the album this morning, didn't finish it but made it to track 13, LIL BOON GUNN.

Now a lot of you say you're not feeling the trap beats but IDK maybe it's an age thing (me being in my 20s) because I like most of the songs so far...

My favorites so far from the 13 songs (12 if you exclude the intro) that I've made it through...

Mama PrimeTime
Kostas
Suicide in Selfridges
KITCHEN LIGHTS
FLYGOD 2x
House of Glory
JD Wrist
Disgusting
Chloe

1989, DunnHill, and LIL BOON GUNN are the worst songs on the album IMO so far, although DunnHill has its moments.

I think this might be better than Pray for Paris because I think these songs, especially the great ones, are much more memorable.

I don't think WSG's rapping is bad at all and he sounds okay on the trap songs even tho it's not his style. From what I gather so far, this album may alienate the older fans who love that homage style of boom-bap sound that Gunn, Griselda (Conway and Benny), Roc Marci, 38 Spesh, etc made popular again.

Seems like Gunn is looking to attract a younger fanbase with this record.
Though this album is like a 6/10 for me, him making this album in another country during Paris Fashion Week makes total sense :dead: :mjlol:

Gunn isn't a bad rapper at all, he just has a weird voice, weird cadence, and doesn't care abut being the best rapper. A "generally not good rapper" couldn't do

or

Some of these bum ass "rappers" would catch an aneurism trying to rap over those beats.

I've listened to this again recently and IDK it's not hitting like it was on the first listen 🤔 might've rated a few tracks higher than they should be.

I think Westside dumbs his sh!t down in terms of the rhyming, I heard some old ish from him, he was nice for real. He still shows glimpses here and there...his "thing" now is swag/image moreso than the rhyming tho. Rick Ross is another one who's nice nice but dumbs his sh!t down to let the swag/image shine more but that's another topic..

Gunn sounded similar to AZ back in 08-09. He intentionally totally changed his style.
