My thing is this though: when Juvenile forced his way out of CMR, the independent route was popping at the time and there were lots of artists (even those with less name recognition) eating as free agents. It's not like Juvenile didn't have a name or a catalogue like some wet-behind-the-ears rapper trying to force his way into the game. Juvenile was a certified platinum rapper. Even if he had no offers on the table (though I doubt this for some reason), he probably would've been better off going independent, especially in the age of mixtapes and iTunes. You telling me that a focused Juvi couldn't have put out decent mixtapes and singles and ate? At the very least, he wouldn't have been a slave to a record label (least of all Baby's) and would've been his own man.
I do agree that, ultimately, Juvenile cannot make sound business/career decisions. Moreover, I think Juvi was afraid to step out of CMR's shadow and do for himself because of his fear of failure. Juvi got into the game when he was young and probably couldn't fathom life beyond CMR, which is a damn shame.
Stay in school and lawyer up before signing music industry contracts, brehs...
He tried the indie route after he left CMR...He did the UTP thing which went nowhere..Then he went back to CMR and did juve the great...Stunna paid some bread to him for that album...Which was still a discount based off what Juve was really owed
He then signed to Atlantic and released an album which went gold..
And then his career started going downhill...And that UTP shyt was dead in the water
I agree with what your saying though..Im sure Juve could have got himself bubbling to a point where he could have made a lil noise...
When it comes to Baby, he promotes the "lifestyle" which is the selling point..
The yachts, cars, women, and "family atmosphere"...That's how nikkas get caught up..
