Anyone know if Crabtree practiced at all, was there even a practice yesterday, I see nothing about it on 49erswebzone.

Everyone probably had the day off.

Culliver on Manningham, competing for the starting job

Chris Culliver has no beef with Mario Manningham. Sure, there's a history - albeit, a brief history - between them. And, yes, there's been some jawing and even some shoving on the practice field. But the cornerback this week insisted it was nothing personal.

"Mario? Nah, nah - he's my teammate now," Culliver said. "No, me and him are cool. Like I said, it's all about competition. At the end of the day, it's not personal. I don't mean to hurt him or nothing like that. Like I say, just move forward from there. Get physical sometimes."

Culliver faced Manningham twice last season when the latter was a member of the Giants. Manningham caught a touchdown pass against the then-rookie in the regular-season matchup, then nearly caught a go-ahead touchdown late in the game against Culliver. The pass, however, was overthrown by Eli Manning.

Culliver said neither Manningham nor fellow ex-Giant Brandon Jacobs likes to talk about the Super Bowl title they won in New York in February. "Nah because that's last year," Culliver said. "Like I say, they won that last year. And hats off to those guys. But they're on a new team."

Culliver, meanwhile, was limited to playing left cornerback in 2011 after the lockout-shortened offseason. This year, he's learning how to play the right side, too, and in that way is competing with Tarell Brown for the starting spot. Brown has taken all of the first-team repetitions so far in training camp. Culliver lines up at left cornerback when the first team is in its nickel formation - Carlos Rogers is the slot cornerback - and moves to the right side with the second-string defense.

That movement also allows Culliver, who had only played one season at cornerback upon entering the NFL, an opportunity to cover an array of receivers. "All the guys have something different about them," he said. "This person is quick, this person is fast or that person is experienced like Randy Moss. Like I said, they bring every different element to the table, so you kind of have to be on your ps and qs and think."

I really like Culliver, dude is fearless, big and I got high hopes for him.

I actually really like our corners with Rogers, Brown and Culliver. Hopefully Parrish Cox can add something to.

That boy Alex is dialed in and ready.

San Francisco 49ers – Niner Insider Blog – SFGate.com » Practice Report – Passing game looking good

Receivers and quarterbacks had a rousing time on the fourth day of padded practice for the 49ers. The team looked fresh during a rare morning practice after returning from an off-day. There was a good half hour period when the ball never touched the ground.

Quarterbacks first threw passes to receivers running one-on-one patterns against a lone defensive back. Great battles ensued between wide receiver Randy Moss and cornerback Carlos Rogers and wide receiver Kyle Williams and cornerback Perrish Cox.
The ladder two have been impressive in training camp, picking up from the off-season program. Meanwhile, Moss made an outstanding catch while Rogers was draped all over him on a crossing route.
Rogers said after practice that Moss will push off every so slightly just before the ball arrives. “I have to get into him early,” Rogers said.
Alex Smith continues to look like the clear number one. He went a full hour before throwing an incompletion during the team scrimmage period. He lead rookie free agent wide receiver Nathan Palmer too far on a pass over the middle.

Back up quarterback Josh Johnson continues to struggle with accuracy, but that may improve when he knows the offense better. He’s the only quarterback who was not with the 49ers last year.
It’s often difficult to see when watching practice from the sidelines, but it does give you feeling of what quarterbacks have to deal with. In the middle of practice, the second-string offense went against the first team defense, and predictably, the defensive front seven overwhelmed the offensive line.
At times during Scott Tolzien’s reps, there was no way he knew where he was throwing the ball because his sight line was obscured. It caused him to misjudge a route on a pass that picked off by Culliver.
The other interception of the day came when a ball glanced off the hands of running back Frank Gore and then was picked off by safety Dashon Goldson, otherwise known as “the hawk.” Gore then turned around and plastered Goldson – the biggest hit of the day. It drew “Oooooh’s” from players.
Meanwhile, quarterback Colin Kaepnerick is still learning to harness his big arm. He blows his passes over the top of his receivers at times, particularly on seam routes over the middle.

Here are some other highlights and observations:
-Kyle Williams made another diving grab. He is making it nearly impossible for the team to cut him.
-First-round rookie A.J. Jenkins continues to look tentative, although I’m openly rooting for him now because he handled the Jim Harbaugh situation so well. Harbaugh berated the media for suggested that Jenkins is a bust.
-Rogers broke up a long pass intended for Moss.
-Alex Smith threw a perfect home run ball to rookie free agent Brian Tyms.
-Former Stanford star Chris Owusu caught a deep touchdown pass from Colin Kaepernick. Owusu beat his man by 10 yards.
-Linebacker NaVorro Bowman had a loud breakup of a pass intended for Palmer.
-Cox broke up a pass intended for Owusu on a short comeback route.
-Linebacker Ahmad Brooks looked very good rushing the passer particularly against the second-string line.

Holy shyt, I can't wait for this season to start, but I'm also bracing myself, some good players are going to get cut. I think of the surprise cuts will be Anthony Dixon and Ted Ginn, especially if Williams and Owusu are capable punt/kickoff returners.

Don't be so sure of that, 49ers got people who can return kicks, KW has more potential as a WR, especially a slot guy which we need.

the niners brought in guys who can return kicks but they're being groomed for the future. nobody on the squad does it better than ginn right now and playing the field position game is a huge part of what we do. he isn't a lock by any means but i doubt he gets cut.

and i stopped taking cohn seriously years ago.

maybe it was mentioned already but that fegget cohn lost his damn mind...

49ers crummy to media, yet again | Cohn Zohn

faggit crying about how harbaugh is antimedia and wont give him even slight controversies or bullshyt generic talk. suck a dikk u fukkboi.

Oh and his little fakkit son started getting on Jenkins trying to make a story out of Johnnie Morton being upset he ran the wrong route in practice.

You can tell these pieces of shyt are trying to make a name off being the writers Harbaugh hates. This douchebag Lowell isn't even reporting a story here, just voicing his gripes. Is that what a good journalist does?

By the way, looked like no CrabTHREE again today.

If Manningham shows out and KW keeps this up, I wouldn't mind us looking to trade the guy, last year of his deal anyway
