Said it months ago that the Xbox was headed the way of SEGA & all the peanut gallery could talk about was how console sales were irrelevant, and how dad was going to outspend the competition because he had unlimited resources to buy all the farms that produced fresh ingredients while the joint across the street had to actually sell food to eat. Morons completely skipped over the fact that dad entered the business to make a ROI & was always anticipating patrons walking through the door and actually ordering from their menu.
All that arrogance about how Sony's model didn't work & the celebrating of layoffs. All that talk about unlimited funds & acquisitions that were now in play, and how the gloves were coming off because their hands were forced because the comp wouldn't stop making award winning "mOviE gAmEs" that people actually wanted to play. Now they have a two sentence response & worried about "competitive balance."
Newsfalsh; the Xbox hasn't been a factor since Obama's second term.
The Xbox is not unique. There has always been a third player to step up -- but never to actually keep up -- and the Xbox is just another name on a long list. The best contribution this console can boast is that it hopefully shows the next player to step in, how to not to go about remaining competitive in the console space.
Don't release a console that's susceptible to hardware failures in 2 out of every 3 units.
Don't play chicken with your consumers and attempt to call their bluff when they express dissatisfaction with your reveal.
Don't thnk that a blank check can solve your woes with an increasingly dwindling market.
Most importantly, don't delude yourself into believing that a subscription based model can subsidize your lack of worthwhile video games, in an industry that is predicated on actually selling video games.
The Xbox is dying because of their own arrogance and incompetence, much of which was mirrored by their consumer base (the ones that were actually left.)
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
