Like everybody, I was disappointed how Omar went out. Yeah we all wanted that ultimate spaghetti western style showdown with Marlo getting his comeuppance in a hail of bullets from Omar, but the show aimed for realism. In real life, dudes get taken out suddenly and unexpectedly and it's not always on some cinematic shyt. Yeah its too bad he got taken out by that little punk Kenard of all people, but it shows how anybody can get got. It ain't like Tommy from Power who is made out to be Mr Invincible lol.

This is the best argument I've heard on why The Greeks ultimately decided to deal with Marlo:

The newspaper reporter storyline IMO was boring and I didn't find any of those characters interesting at all.

The Wire is my fav show of all time and always will be, but I agree season 5 is the only weak season even though it still has sometimes questionable but brilliant writing. Season 2 was dope but misunderstood. The tone changed a lot from the first season so it took a lot of people off guard, but it was a dope season and Frank Sabotka is one of the greatest characters on the show. I give seasons 1-4 a 9.5-10/10 and this season 5.5/10.

I have no idea why people keep calling this show the goat with the awful season 5 and 2

Only 3 out of 5 seasons were good. The wire isnt even in my top 15 with how bad those two seasons were
If The Wire aint even in your top 15 i would like to know what is in your top 5 at least..:jbhmm:

Or maybe i dont , because season 2 is not a bad season :gucci:

As people have already stated in this thread it is vital for the rest of the show and is the reason why The Wire is not a cop show but a tv programme about the city of Baltimore

Season 1,3,4 are great and I can see why it’s in peoples top 10 just not mine cuz 2 and 5 are atrocious

If you don’t like Season 2, then I can’t take your views on life seriously. Season 2 was one of the best explanations for why the wealthy always win and are always in power despite the crimes they commit. We get a conclusion of the D’Angelo story line and how he never had a chance.

We also see more of how Stringer is the biggest villain on the show. It was a remarkable season and people dislike
it only because it was white people and not much “hood drama.”

Season 5, with more time and thought could have been as important but they had less episodes to work with than they wanted and the writers strike happened. I didn’t know Ed Burbs left after season 4, but that also explains a lot.

The fact you are not even going to give me your top 5 when ive asked and come back with just season 2 and 5 are attrocious says what i needed to know
As i said in the first post im not sure i want to know when you think season 2 is bad

Honest truth i wasnt happy with season 2 on my first watch because i loved season one so much but after watching it again and again i started to appreciate it alot more, it is so vital to the whole show

Everything what has been said in this post i agree with and is all correct especially the reason why people dislike season 2

And yeah Ed Burns left after season 4 and he just wrote all about his experiences in his 2 jobs that is why its the closest tv show to real life things

Na, I enjoyed it on my rewatch. People give it shyt since they wanted to see AR’s death, the large gap in the time jump, and Tommy’s involvement. I liked Nucky’s origins story. Sure, it wasn’t great like the previous seasons, but it wasn’t as bad as we made it out to be.
I rewatched and I've softened a bit on season 5

It's not without great moments, given the GOAT potential the show had, but the Tommy angle leaves a terrible taste:scust:

I just finished my first re-watch and I can't believe I forgot how ridiculously outlandish season 5 is. :scust: Maybe I tried blocking it from my memory, but man, it left I bad taste with me this time around. It's like they made it unnecessarily complex and didn't think it through. :dwillhuh:

-The Newspaper storyline: in the final season they decide to give a story about a shytty reporter making up stuff. This didn't need the time or focus on when the show is coming to an end. I'm not saying the newspaper shouldn't have had a role, but they coulda did it better and with little time to cover this side of things (more on that later).

-Prop Joe: you're gonna tell me a vet of the drug game, someone who's seen plenty of people come and go in this business, was so naive to Marlo? Dude was warned multiple times about him, yet still put him on game. How you gonna introduce Marlo to your main connect because you want the guy to have reassurance? If you're gonna do that with him, might as well let others in. :gucci:

-Cheese's Betrayal: came out of nowhere and felt like a cop out. There's only one scene I can point at where Cheese may have had an issue with Joe (where Joe tells Marlo Cheese isn't in the Co-Op and has no say, basically), but there wasn't even a proper build-up to the tension between the two. So Cheese decides to become a soldier for Marlo after he was already a soldier for Joe? Why? More money? Ask for a raise. :gucci:

-McNulty's character arc: didn't have to go down the way it did. The homeless story didn't need to happen. If they wanted to show him go back to fukking up they coulda did a better job. Show him fighting temptation to revert, then make him fukk up. It woulda been better writing to show his downward spiral instead of, "hey, let's start the season where he's knee deep in the shyt. :ld:" :francis:

-Marlo Plot Armor: absolutely hated how this guy was portrayed as untouchable. At least with Avon and Stringer we saw how smart they were. All Marlo did was bark orders and it looked like Snoop and Chris were the brains more than him.

-The Connect: so these dudes are just gonna let some new guy come in and take over? After years of smooth sailing with Joe they're gonna trust the new kid? You don't destroy a business relationship where things have been good. :what:

A lot of people give shyt about season 2, but season 5 is the weakest and disappointing. Hell, watching this season made me appreciated Boardwalk Empire's season 5, another show I watched again recently; BE S5 is a much better season on re-watch.

Season 5 coulda just focused on Omar vs. Marlo with the police budget cuts and newspaper involvement playing a part in it. Bodies coulda been piling up and innocent victims caught in the crossfire. McNulty coulda made a connect with a writer to dish the dirt and bam, wiretap is up. Not only that, but they coulda gave Omar a glorious death instead of punk ass Kenard doing it. Marlo had an issue with his name being shyt on, so they coulda had dude get reckless because Omar was just eating him up. That's all that had to be done. :shaq2:
Alot of stuff is ridiculous..Season 5 or not. Omar's situation in jail was absurd...them finding him to get locked up didn't add up. He's pretty hard to find..He has this Batman aura gimmick where he's always studying the prey and them pouncing on them ala Dexter Morgan. So Butchie gets a crew to him before gets punked out in jail...lol. Nah.

Marlo having a group of drug runners scared for two seasons? Thats ridiculous too. That's Pablo Escobar...Luciano-level territory. They had the manpower to instill that fear so it works for them..Marlo had Chris and Snoop and some lanky ass chumps around the way...nope.

McNulty changed after Bodie got killed..he wasnt even paying attention to nothing for the entire 4th season.

Wire's "down season" still better than 90% of TV but yeah, sum storylines jumped the shark in da last season.

I liked season 5...but it was easily my least favorite season. Still, the weakest season on the GOAT show is better than a lotta series best.

Season 2 is classic TV. I won't accept in slander on that season.
season 2 is great it set up a lot of things for example why the Greeks decided to work with Marlo was because propJoe got greedy and started asking about them girls. yes the skinny Cac is annoying as fukk, but the port angle was extremely interesting.
