Breh, I've lived in the DC area all my life and segments of my family live within DC(amongst this "lost" cause you speak of) I'm a witness to what's going on there. First off I don't know what "ACTUAL black communities" is suppose to mean but I suppose its more snob speak.
Anacostia in Southeast is as much a black community as LeDroit Park in Northwest is, both are being gentrified though and those gentrifiers aren't black nor do they intimately understand the situation. The cost of living in DC is fukkin ridiculous and the demand for housing in the city from yuppies is big, my uncles owned businesses in the black community in DC for decades and were well connected with local politicians, police, media, etc as well as with the citizens in the community but they decided to move back to Ethiopia because the shyt here just costs too much and for what they spent here they do more over there.
Not everyone has that option, some just close up shop, move out to Maryland, and try to make a way after living all their lives in the District. Of course some people refuse to sell my aunts being some of those people, some businesses still thrive because people like me make it a point to go to support them. In fact, I don't mind it at all if Blacks are involved in gentrification that's what I want as long as their network looks to keep the community black and bring economic diversity and raise the standard just as you suggest. The amount of rotting homes and buildings on DC's East side lets me know that not enough is being done, those are spaces that can be converted into daycares for children, small businesses, and homes for those business owners. I look at neighborhood from before integration like Harlem, Greenwood, etc and that's my expectation for us today because we don't have Jim Crow to worry about.
This is weird....I thought you said that black people were genetically predisposed to laziness, violence, and were proven less intelligent than Europeans. What are these fools doing letting black people anywhere near a computer. Its obviously a waste of time, right?

This point just cannot be stressed enough. Really your whole post is on point. Entertainment is culture, culture develops and ultimately defines your community or society. If you don't have control over either then what's happening right now is exactly what'll happen. I live around black professionals and see educated brothas and sistas all the time, but their talents aren't going into industries rooted in the black community they're goin into shyt outside of the community. That's why it's depressing to see what's become of HBCUs, they still serve a purpose but people want to run away to live in another man's house instead of building his own institutions.

HBCU or not, most ediucated black people go to college so they can work for a white owned company. Black people as a whole are scared to create their own companies. It is amazing that black people don't even have their own national fast food or restaurant chain. Roscoe's should have been in every major city, but today white restaurants have ran with what made them known and added it to their menus, chicken and waffles

I don't know if it's because we're from African communities that we notice this since they tend to be more prideful and tight knit, but this whole run to the white community/institutions/rush to live a white standard shyt has always disgusted me as if Blacks cannot create a standard even better than that. My father told me differently but in subtle ways cuz he ain't wanna raise no racist, the point he always made was that this is a country of competition and choices. You can choose to compete with everyone else just to say you've been chosen to work for someone in that big shiny office building and that's nice cuz its safe and you'll have something, but you can also choose to get your own shiny building across the street and work for yourself. Either way gettin money and making it self-sustaining is the main point.
Black people got so much potential from top to bottom, its just sad I believe it more than a lot of em do.

I think the best thing all you dudes can do is make it like a Jay or whoever else black people respect if y'all wanna really get your message out whatever it maybe. Most people ain't trying to hear nikkas right with them talking all this change shyt even if you are correct about it. Right or wrong people going to say fukk you don't use your own advice for and do it big. All we doing is talking for the sake of talking because even though we might disagree on certain shyt we have the same main goal at least that's how I see all this talk.

on the issue, i've thought about this as well. obviously its nice we "gettin money" through entertainment but for many of our youth, as has been said, that has been the only route they see as a way to get money
now this view doesnt come from no where it largely comes from the media and the culture. im not going to pretend like i have an answer for how to change the cultural perception of what is really important because its a multi faceted problem
at the root its a cultural thing, and since im the eternal optimist i think we are making progress. maybe its just because of who i have surrounded myself with but i see young black people on the verge of success in the science field. its going to be our job to not only raise our own youth but teach other kids their options
black people are the most unique people in this country so we cant compare ourselves to other races. this means we have to go about things differently. we have to have a bigger impact in our community and we have to place a greater focus on molding our youth (our own kids and those in our community)
some people saying our generation is lost, maybe it is, but the next one isnt until we give up on them

You're right. It would hurt. Talented poor black men in the hood who see the opportunity of giving their bodies to the professional sports slave industry for a few million dollars would obviously find it difficult to turn away from that opportunity. It's a sacrifice that I believe wil have to be made for any real significant change to be made in this nation with regards to black/white relations. Black men need to stop giving their bodies to these slaveholders.
