Well think of it this way. Goldberg is a "special attraction" every so often, and despite how absolutely terrible he is in the ring at his age, it still means something to beat a "legend".
So while Lashley did add a Goldberg win to his list of accolades, he also has to give one back, so the legend can still mean something next time he come around.
It would have been better if Lashley never entered the feud at all, because Goldberg is visibly bad that it buries Lashley non-kayfabe, but at least understand the WWE's motive with this.

He's still in his 20s and has only 2 years of wrestling experience before wwe, so Vince can kind of say he picked up Melo from the beginning
