That's not anything light. Could have been in the rotation next season. The acquisition is a free agent after 2022. If there was an additional year of control, it wouldn't be a risky trade.
They have a bunch of depth which Megill, Peterson, Yamamoto etc etc and it's not like Ginn was a top 100 prospect. Bassitt isn't some 5th starter.

Peterson sucks as does Yamamoto. The Mets organization does not have pitching depth in the minors that could come up and play. Ginn was 5th overall and was on track to be called up in 2023.

Ginn hasn't really rebounded from TJ like many have hoped
5th overall maybe in our system but that wasn't saying much. (I see some more in the 7-10 range for him tho). Peterson and Yamamoto are serviceable. Ginn was never thought of as an future ace. You gotta give something up to get something. They also drafted some folks last year that could possibly be in the 2023 picture like Hamil and Vasil.

It's either gonna be Story on a short deal or we're gonna have 5 guys for 4 spots where Gio plays more SS, but when he needs to give DJ a breather he goes to 3rd and Peraza plays.
