:manny: once again I have no empathy for a situation that was 10+ years in the making.

I agree. This is something that should not be left until the last minute, AND should have been ironed out during the Covid season in 2020. You cant be this short sighted to have a damn lockout right out of the 2 Covid impacted years. MLB has always been the dumbest major sport and that includes the NHL who had to sign a non-paying TV deal to stay relevant.

MLB is already on this ice, and they pull this stuff.

(Also, selfishly, I have tickets to games the opening weekend so Im even more mad)

Haven't been following any of this too closely. What do you mean here?
They want to suppress wages and Cohen is clearly showing he's willing to spend and outbid for players in free agency (see Max Scherzer's contract). The Mets have like a 250+ payroll atm and they are probably gonna spend another 20+ imo. Teams like the rockies don't want to spend and the proposals MLB have been offering included extremely minor increases in the luxury tax and harsher penalties for exceeding it than before.

They want 14 teams to sell more merch for getting to the playoffs even if it's 2 seconds lol. They need to chill. Those 2 other teams gotta have real disadvantages for it to be worth it.

capitalism compromising the integrity of sports

they'd go WWE if it meant more money
